I just wanted to post here and let you see why I am doing what I do. This is a new post and therefore a valid one. I post this to urge you to understand that the need is a real one and we welcome a members here that can to help me with this challenge.
Thank you in advance.

I just got off the phone with Childrens Hospital in New Orleans La. I was calling about the babies and Stacie also told me that they had a lot of children that were brought to the hospital abused and sexually abused and could not keep thier clothes as they were kept for evidence. They are a non profit hospital that will not turn any child away even if the parents can not pay. These children come from very poor families and really do not have much if anything. She gave me a list of needs, I will list the info below. God Bless these Little ones!!!!

Childrens Hospital
200 Henry Clay Ave.
New Orleans La. 70118 attn development office

www.chnola.org
phone:1-504-899-9511

contact:Stacie Arceneaux

needs: lapghans,puzzle books,t-shirts,underwear,socks,tooth brush,tooth paste,brush and comb,shampoo,coloring books and colors

wouldn't it be nice to have a crocheted or knitted or sewn bag with personal care items in it to send to these children? Just a thought.

Have you gone to a local dollar store? Usually they have toothbrush and toothpaste sets for a $1 and there are comb and brush sets sometimes too.

Yes, this is just one of the needs we have, which is why we seek volunteers. The need can be overwhelming to one person but can be a blessing to many who volunteer to help and it is trivial things to us. Great needs to them.
The clothes can be gently used or sale items, sewn or however. If you would like to hear more go to our web site and join us..you are always welcome..
God bless your hearts,

Hey there,

I'm very familiar with Children's Hospital since I've spent many years off and on on the Gulf Coast. They are in great need at all times! Even though it's been almost 2 years since Hurricane Katrina went through New Orleans it is still like a "war zone".

My heart goes out to those people...they really do need alot of help and will for many years to come.

Yes, we have donated to some of the Katrina victims a couple of times and probably will be again, but as you know, covering these tasks take more than one person, they take many. This is the reason we seek volunteers, because each person can take on that many more that are in these types of crisis situations. The previous post is a common thing on our forum and we welcome anyone that has, or can do, anything to help others in need. There are NO financial requirement forms, because anyone can be in a crisis, and we will be there to lend a helping hand. This, I feel, is what the Lord directed us to do. As you do unto others you do it unto Him. This is the purpose we strive for.
God bless each and every responder we have.

Hey Pauline,

Yes, I can totally understand all about the needs of the people. Both of my stepsons, my sister and my neice for my immediate family plus countless dozens of others that I know personally lost "everything"..homes, autos...everything...and the ones that were homeowners have had to beg and finally resulted in a huge class action suit to finally almost 2 years later get their homeowner's policies paid to them.

My stepsons were not property owners but lost all of their contents and so like the homeowner had to start from scratch also. So for myself it has been about what I can do for the immediate people that I know and love that suffered horribly and will never be the same again mentally ...

I was in Southcentral Mississippi during that hurricane and had damage but no complete lose...after too many years of bad storms I came back to the mountains.

I couldn't stomach anymore heartache after the previous 3 years of Hurricanes that tore up the Gulf Coast areas where I had once lived. Enough is enough! I truly feel for the folks that have found themselves "stuck" in such aweful circumstances.

The mental health issues in the Gulf Coast area are at an all time high due to the oppresive enviroment they are having to live in day in and day out. Like I said earlier, "They have come a long way in not quite 2 years but it will take decades for that area to be filled with good energy again.

God does have His plan and by helping those in need we can plant the seed of hope that so many down there desperately need.

I also know from talking to people up on the east coast about the hurricane that they really didn't know just how bad it is on the Gulf Coast...they just don't get the detailed coverage up there. And it's the same way for alot of different areas of the US...

Amen sister. I wish I could say this is the only hurting area like that. This is why we gather in our group and try to "puff" up and do more. It is a difficult thing, like you said and I will do what I can as much as I can to help them. You know, the funny thing is that we have more volunteers on the east coast than the west coast where I am.
Sad that we have to beg people to help others. That should never be. I guess they just have to see the need through their hearts and then they may see it through the Lord's eyes.
Thank you for sharing such a personal moment with me. I pray we get enough more volunteers to help more in those area's.
God bless,
Pauline

Please, please do NOT get toothpaste and other personal hygiene items from a dollar store or Big Lots. Personal hygiene products from other countries (i.e. China) have been found there repeatedly, and with the problems with imported toothpaste, etc., I'd spend a little more elsewhere to avoid that risk.

Some people search for happiness; others create it.

Sometimes I find that if one goes to Wal-Mart or similar stores and look for that particular item you can buy the same thing at a more reasonable cost, the difference of course being the shopping escapade. You simply have to look in wider visuals. I have found this more often than not.
Then also if you buy in bulk in such a store as Cost-co, like my youngest daughter works in, or a co-op, you are apt to save even more. Unfortunately I have not found yarns as such in bulk. lol
There are many stores and shops, and we buy supplies including some at the ladies shops, that own specialty shops, involved with our charity. This saves on many things as well as we can buy wholesale rather than retail, and in bulk if needed.
Slowly with our charity we work through costs, receive donated items, such as wedding dresses, sometimes by companies in bulks of 100 at a time. These are gone through very fast and made into burial items of the most beautiful quality a person could ever ask for. All matching with casket, gown, memory box, photo album covered in the material, snap shot of the original wedding dress and pictures of everything made for it to go back to the solo persons that sent them. Of course with company gowns this would be impossible.
The caskets are many sizes as the gentlemen and ladies pour their hearts into each nail and sanding that goes with it. Sometimes we buy them, but mostly we make them so everything is coordinated. The tears shed while making these items and the prayers are priceless. The gratitude for which they are received is priceless and a witness to the ones they are given to.
We don't mind spending the extra money to fill memory boxes, buy quality toys, or whatever is available. We do ask that people donate nothing less than they would feel good receiving for their own children.
Volunteers have came and gone, but the Lord sends from His heart the ones that He wants there for particulars. Right now we have several and are seeking Regional managers from Region (like three or more States) state reps(singular) and area reps(towns of one or more).
We seek volunteers and price cost where ever we can and the Lord leads us. The problem we have is that either the people (sometimes) are either not listening to what the Lord is telling them or they pass the buck and want others to take up the slack) or the others see such a large need they feel it too large for them to handle not realizing others will be there to help with the task.
My mother sewed our clothes for all 11 of my siblings and I after we worked berry and bean fields from the time we could stand and she sewed our clothes, my father was on crutches for over thirty years before he died and never complained about the pain for the huge hump that accumulated on his back from multiple infection from the injuries he received in the logging accident ( the surgeries during his time were too dangerous to do) but he worked on the farm and multiple other businesses he created, but most of all he taught us the compassion, Always know God is our Creator, and always do your very best to do His work with quality.
These people are always worth the very best we can do as they represent the Lord to us and what we are commanded to do for Him through them. You may entertain angels unaware.

Hey Pauline,

I'll speak for the southern area of the US.

I know being a southern lady that we nurture that "grapevine"...LOL Meaning that we all like to know what's going on 'everywhere" There seems to be a natural curious nature so maybe that has a bit to do with involvement also...

Alot of folks detach themselves from helping. I have found that to be so true with my Preemie Baby charity. They think they have to be able to sew, knit, quilt, crochet, etc. to help....Not True...when you explain that they can donate yarn, fabric, money, go to the hospital and join the Rocking Chair ministry, etc...then their eyes light up and then they really want to help!

A person doesn't have to personally touch the crisis, so to speak, to be able to be of tremendous help!

Do you have regular public "get involved" days where folks can drop by to see what you are doing? I know that always helps me...I find a church or recreation center and have a "sew day" but tell all the ladies to tell their friends and neighbors to drop by to see what we are doing and what they can do too.

Enjoy talking to you

We have all sorts of incentive ways to try to get people involved as we have Regional Reps, State Reps, and Local Reps across the United States. We are not localized to one area. We have some states that need all three of these. We are a 501C3 charity that is working to cover the Nation with volunteers as the needs, as you know, are already there. We need Regional reps in several areas, but we don't want to work our volunteers into the ground.
We deal with Preemies, babies, tot's, teenagers, parents, and losses, life, and any aspect of a crisis.
I find it wonderful that your charity works with preemies also, that is what sparked ours. I have two grandsons that were born preemie, one at three months preemie, the other a month preemie, and then a granddaughter (Which sparked the charity) that passed away after an hour and a half of life. She has spoken more in her short life than most people can do in a life time for Christ.
Are you a Federal Charity? Or do you just work locally?

Hey Pauline,

No I'm not non-profit status, I started the Preemie Charity 10 years ago after realizing that I was sitting across the bay (at that time) from the Level III NICU that took care of babies from the Florida coast over to New Orleans and then Charity Hospital took in the babies in the New Orleans area...

With the USA Women's and Children's Hospital in Mobile, Alabama caring for 75 to 95 preemies on any given day I decided that all of the donations that I received would be taken there and not spread around. I had rather fill a need instead of spread a little bit here and there.I later moved into Mobile and that made it even easier

I came close to filing for the non-profit status but I had a mother in law move in me and I became her caregiver..there simply wasn't enough of me to go around at that point Up until that point I had devoted about 25 hours a week to the charity.

I have kept my info on the internet all these years and have received donations from all over the world. It has been very touching to see the people reaching out to help.

In addition, I encourage and help the volunteers to seek out their local Level III NICU to see what their needs are and to take their donations there instead of sending to me. What I soon learned was that alot of people just wanted the opportunity to sew but not get involved in the meeting of anyone at Volunteer Services. So I let them do what makes them comfortable. Some go to their local hospital, some mail everything to me.

So as things turned out I was stopped by events in my life to follow through with the non-profit status. But what I ultimately decided was the way I had been approaching it was the best way.

I realized that the blessing that was received by being personally involved at every level in my home area was what the Lord had intended me to do And it was much much more than I could keep up with.

I'm glad that you have the time to devote to the charity. The volunteers are out there but they have to realize in their hearts what a difference they can make..it's just not something you can tell a person..it's a "heart condition".

So I do what I can and that is just to stay faithful that I've planted a seed in someone's heart to respond to the need.

Mother Teresa has a quote that I really love:

"We can do no great things, only small things with great love."

Yes, I think Mother Teresa is quite and inspiration. What would you think about going under us for the status of the charity, do what you already do and be able to give the tax write offs to the ones you do? We have great need of direction in that area and with your base already there you are already doing pretty much what you are doing? Then, too, some of our volunteers can also send your way. We are trying to establish each state and city to donate locally. You have it right and the overhead is expensive to keep up with.
I understand your dilemma though, people are very complex. You have to love them to do what we do..

Hey Pauline,

To keep things simple and be effective at the same time is how I always try to approach what I do in life

So having said that....I believe I will continue just as I have always done concerning my Preemie Baby charity. It has worked wonderfully for 10 years!

I do appreciate your offer though...If you will go to all of the Charity related Websites on the internet and the Charity related Forums you can add the link to your organization. That is what I've always done

Since you have a website for the charity you might consider starting an on-site Charity Forum/Message board for interested folks to post on.

Have a great week!

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. If you put our name in your browser you will see we are right there with the best of them. If you need help with any items for yours, please let us know so we may help a sister out there doing the work of the Lord. I am just happy that there is another charity doing such well needed work. There can not be enough help for all the needs.
God bless you,
