Ok ladies I think it's time to have our own website, I know many of you have been having simular thoughts. I was already going to post all the art that I got on site own site but I think with the way this is growing we need our own site. So last night I talked to my husband (the brains behind many of my ideas) and we're going to do it, we'll host the site as a subdomain of our site. This is turning out to be such a big thing, it's so wonderful to be a part of it. I hear Mary Jane is thinking about featuring us in her next magazine, thats a pretty neat thing.
I plan to get started on designing and building the site right away. We were thinking eventually we will have a journal on the site so people could write in from time to time and share their thoughts about making and receiving the mail art.
So please any questions, comments and ideas feel free to email me or post here.
Oh and check out our new site for the Artian's Web. It's finally up and running and waiting for more people to join up. Just ckick on the link below the Sqrl&Bee. Unfortunitly if you have an old monitor like the one I have at work than it won't look nearly as good as it should. But oh well check it out anyway.

I just want to state just incase there are any missunderstandings that in no way does this website take the place of the mail art. Nothing changes, it's just a place to have a gallery. We will have a journal (or a blog whatever you want to call it) so people can scan the art if you have a scanner or you could use a digital camera and post the art yourself. This way everyone will get a chance to see all this beautiful art going around. Any questions let me know.

Hi Melissa,
I finally got a chance to look at your site. It is very nice. My computer is not to old and we have xp but your site shows up to large and the scroll only goes part way down and part way across I was not able to read the bottom of the pages. HMMM don't know how to fix that so I can see it better. I am excited for my daughter and her husband to see your site. They have a nice one to and also advocate the simpler life style. They built a yurt from the ground up and have it all documented there on their site.
You can see it at
www.foursongs.com click on owner built yurt.
Michael is starting up a "build your own yurt" class this summer and already has all his materials and plans drawn up.
I am going to send Audrey to look at your site.

Eileen, I will have to look at that and make sure it's not the site. But i think it sounds like the resolution is really high on your monitor. Do you have problems with other sites? This is good for me to know since I have only a few monitors to view our site on it helps to get imput from others.
Keep checking on the site we're constantly working on it right now so it's changing a lot all the time.

Hi, Clare,
What kind of apron production are you trying to get started? I'd like to know more about your efforts and ideas. I love making arpons and at one time thought about making them in quantity for sale, but was not at all sure how to go about getting started. I'd love to hear what you have to say and more about what you are doing. Thank you for sharing your insights. God bless you this day.

In His hands,
Lynda

Well Lynda, I have not formulated a firm plan yet, but am going to get started (maybe this weekend!) getting my vintage patterns copied to sturdy wrapping paper, and then start. I have made a few a year ago or so... from a 1930's pattern, but am concentrating on 1940's styles. I intend to trademark my "name" for them, and perhaps to sell them via Ebay and word of mouth... maybe a few select vendor booths, too. This will be in addition to my full time paying job, so weekends and evenings, as time allows, for production. Perhaps I'll post a few style choices that I have available and do some on consignment, too. I'll keep y'all posted!

Clare - you know you probably have a large order just waiting to happen from us here on this site!

Melissa - I look forward to seeing the mail art site, but I do not have a scanner or a digital camera set-up, so I am truly a snail mail art girl.

Here's a quick question (hopefully not too dumb). I'm so new to the mail art, when you send something out, do you make several of one thing to send out to several on the list or do you make separate individual items and pick and choose who gets what?

I am happy to be a part of this phenomenom, I think it will be so much fun because what a joy it will be to open the mailbox to something other than white envelopes that require a payment in return. Boy, won't the US postal service love us! There for a while there was the fear that email would put a dent into their business and they would have to raise prices and on and on and on, but now.....we can put their fears to rest with the resurgance of old-fashioned postal service needed to carry our treasures/art/inspiring notes from one home to the next.

Oooops another question...since I haven't received any mail art yet, I'm curious just what exactly are some of the things that are being sent?

I must admit I have not mailed anything out yet, because I'm really not sure what to do for it, but have put it on my "to-do" list for the weekend and that's when this question came to mind. It will be a great project to work on inside since it will be blistering outside - 100+ degrees. My poor garden and plants.

I'm sorry girls, I just can't write only two lines or one question. I guess I have a babbling nature, in case you haven't already figured that out by now or noticed.

Looking forward to your suggestions and experiences. Blessings to you all!

In His hands,
Lynda

Oh and thanks, Clare, for your reply about your apron production intentions. I'm pretty much in the same situation, full time work and a part-time home business, so sewing gets squeezed in when it can. I'll be curious how the E-bay venture goes for you, I've not tried that yet.

Lynda - the best thing about the mail art project, and probably the reason it has become so popular, is th fact you can do whatever your little heart desires.

Make a post card and decorate it, enclose something neat like a seed packet or a feather, use stickers, paint, pieces of fabric. The important thing is to make it something you want to spend time on and share. Choose to send to anyone on your list and make your art as you have time.

Be creative and let your heart be your artist! Just make it small enough to mail!!!!

Sqrl,I am not sure if this is possible, or how others feel about it, but I was thinking it would be great to see a pic of the person who did the mail art work.
For me, it would be neat to put a face to the name of the person who sent to me.

And then seeing as you are good at this website thing, you could stick all our heads together in a group pic, so we could print it off into a calendar for next year for ourselves. I for one would love to have the group hanging on the kitchen wall, sharing my coffee.

In the Profile area, you can link to a photo of yourself if it's already hosted on a website. I've just done so - you can see how it's done. Not so sure that we can associate one to our profile otherwise. It's not like uploading photos on ebay.

I just sent off my first piece today.. I couldn't think of what to do so I asked my husband to throw out some really abstract phrase (something he's very good at) and I would take it from there... He did and I did but I don't want to say what I made until it gets where it's going because I don't want to spoil it for the recipiant.. but it's fun to just do some goofy thing and send it off :)

Sherry, I'll have to think on that and talk to my husband. I'm not sure what is causing that I since I haven't had that problem yet.

Helen, I too would like to see a picture of everyone. I was thinking of having list of the ladies that says they're name and the country and state that they live in which is of course optional as some ladies may not want that info shown. We can have a picture (if submitted by the person) with this list. This all had to do with a data base of course and that takes time to build. So I think first the site gets built and than all the stuff willing come next. Also when we show the piece of art we will put the senders name, country and address (optional)
Now about the site. It is being designed as we speak. I got all the colors together ( first step) this weekend and began building the first page. It's coming along great, it's very cute and girly with a little farmgirl spunk.

The journal is finished!!!! I just have to write in it put a few instructions and add a bead for the book mark and send it out. It will be features on the front page of the site. Optimaly I would like to keep track of the journal as it goes around the world and post that along with the book. But that will be up to you gals and emailing me when you get the book.

I will also post something like a monthly news letter. Also I am not a writter but many of you tell such lovely stories like in the topic " How did you get statrted" I think it's posted in " a farm of your own". If anyone would like to wirte about this, mail art or anything in and around the forum please let me know and we'll post it on the site. The more the merrier. I just love sites ( like MJF) that keep you there, you don't want to leave until you have read every little bit. I guess thats it for now. Thats all thats fit to print.

Blessed Be

Back to the wonderful Mail Art project! So far, BlueEggBabe, Susan Atwell, Jane Hubner and MollyMae have sent their beautiful creations to all of us here at MaryJanesFarm. What creative artsy farmgirls all! Thanks for making our day!
Carol will be scanning these fabulous works of art soon to be displayed on the website so you can all take a gander! She is still recovering from eye surgery, so it will be a little while. In the meantime, we are all wishing her a quick recovery.
BlueEggBabe, thanks for sending me my own personalized mail art, you're a doll as I can see, thanks for the tea!! I am WOWED to say the least!
Thank you to all our cherished farmgirls! I want to share Mary Tollmans' definition of Farmgirls sent in a recent letter after she participated in the Farmgirl Campout July 3rd ~
"Farmgirls,as we have all come to realize - do not reside just in the country. This state of mind and disposition of heart is an inner quality. They have beauty, grace, humility, the romantic love of by-gone eras, and down-to-earth practicality. Only a country girl can be a hopeless romantic, yet a practical realist. For esample :"Honey, we've got too many chickens. Dinner will be under the starts tonight on an heirloom quilt with grandma's hand-embroidered napkins. The menu ... fried chicken."
Thanks to you all for being part of this amazing group of kindred spirits!
love ya!
