Yes it is fabric that you buy but they are real yoyo's stitched together that probably some one in China or India made which is sad but I want to see it in real life.
woohoo my husband said he knows where one is I have never seen so new craft store for me to go check out yes so now I can see it and not buy score there

| It's kind of like the quilts you can buy at Target - hand quilted and they're only around $50-$60. They really exploit workers, plus it lowers the value of handquilted items made here in the US. |

Takes the fun out of it, surely? I agree that there are so many handmade items on the market that are actually made in third world countries with the poor workers being paid a pittance to do it. And it certainly does de-value local peoples craft work.

How disappointing. I think you are right, Sherri, this will again bring down the value of handmade items.
It would be interesting to know if the fabric they used is of any quality or not (dye strength and 'density')

Wow, never seen "yo yo fabric"! Kinda sad that a third world country might have made them if that is the case. I totally enjoy every stitch that I put into my yo yo's! Just a wonderful simple joy!

Ok, I ahve to agree that it is terrible the way our culture exploits other countries to get good done so cheaply. this is one reason I make many things. I want to have quilts, and I wil lpay for machine quilting at a fair price. I despise the idea of a cheap priced quilt.
however, let's be fair and the fabric is available to buy. I already checked out this link yesterday, and the yo-yos look like cotton lawn (a little thinner on the cotton) and it does look lovely, and I would probably buy some if the price were right. I buy cheap fabric or fabric on sale and know sometimes it is a darn shame that it is like that. I do like expensive quilter's cotton, but I am not opposed to buying cheaper fabrics.
You have to pick your battles, and I choose to try and make things for many gifties. I have to let the whole cheaper items in general pass me by as I am not a shopper to begin with. I don't ahve it in me to do like my daughter (get a fleece, clean it or send it out, spin it, ply it and knit or weave with it). I have seen beautiful items that were done this way, an amazing suit from handwoven fabric that she spun herself. however, it took years of fitting in time. That I do not ahve.

Just seems to take away from the "I made it myself" and put time and effort into something for someone or yourself. I still would rather do it the old way.

I agree I still want to see this and honestly I am debating if this would be better on my 5 year olds bed as I wouldn't wince if it ripped as the other blanket means a lot to me and the girls as it has yoyos all three of them made ones I made and lots that you ladies at MJF and I received in swap and as gifts. I almost just want to hang it on the wall behind her day bed as a bright decoration on the wall.

I was thinking about this fabric as I was making yo yo's while waiting at the doctor's office. You could make your own yo yo fabric very easily. I have done this for purses and pillows. Just take a base fabric to match your color scheme. Put the yo yo's on by sewing around the very outside edge with your sewing machine or handstitch on. You would just lay them side by side and sew until you filled up the base fabric. I'll try to do an example and put on my blog by the weekend.
The fabric from Hobby Lobby is done this way.

Hi yoyo gals,
This is Linda in Scranton, PA. leting ya get to know me! I was trying to sleep last night and was thinking about all the things I could make with my new yoyos! I was thinking about sewing a zig zag stitch over the joined yoyos....to make it stronger and also another quilted addition. A contrasting color with large stitches!
This "fabric" reminds me of that.
My personal experience on the "Chinese" handmade things sold cheaply in stores is ....it always has cheap and weak fabrics....crochet also.
As a spiritual woman I say a prayer for the little girls who made these with their own hands and supporting a family when in the United States she could be outside playing! Sometimes I say a sarcastic remark about "little girls made this for 50 cents an hour and I respect that". I don't like to propogate the practice so I refuse to purchase anything like that. (most of the time) but sometimes the price compared to the work is tempting!
Truly glad to have a forum to express this in! I think you may understand me!

So I asked wise craft how much this fabric was originally here is her response
"this was originally $40/yd, but was marked down to $24/yd." Now I see why she bought it that pillow probably cost her less than 3 or 4 dollars to make and not much time either. I still like making yo-yos and probably wont stop to much fun. But I can see the draw to that as well for those who don't hand craft it gives a similar look and much less time and money. I think the fabric alone to make the yo-yos would cost more than wisecraft's pillow did

well, I can certainly see why she picked it up. Even at $40/yard, there is so much fabric involved in the yo-yos. Although I will not be locating this as I am just too lazy and figure I will eventually get around to making a yo-yo purse or piloow, it is always intersting to see what is out there. I lvoe the idea tht handcrafted items are so in style that the stores are trying to sell "the look".

I go to the Chattanooga Hobby Lobby every 3 weeks or so. I'm assuming this fabric is over in the home dec fabrics that are on a roll and usually wider than 44". I'll look for it the next time I go. I'm sure there are ladies that live closer to one than I do.
I really hate that China produces over 60% of the cotton these days..that is why all of the designer fabrics that we buy are anywhere from $3 to $25 per yard just for an average. They sub it all out to China and other near by countries. I think there are only 2 or 3 fabric producers in the USA now..The designers produce their designs here in the USA and have China produce the fabric.
So to not buy anything made by "low cost labor" countries would mean not buying much fabric at all. I absolutely love the Indonesian Batiks made from Rayon and then alot of them are 100% cotton. They are also produced by children and adults alike and paid so much per month.
I haven't quit buying it though. Those same fabrics would cost twice that per yard or more if made in the USA. We are a country of High Technology and have moved out of the production era so to speak...
So actually China, Indonesia, etc. have benefited greatly by our shift in policies. I hate it that those countries are not as humane as the USA but it's been that way since the beginning of time and isn't going to change.
Another huge reason that our military men and women need to be brought home! It's a losing battle 
I love my vintage fabric collection..one of the reasons I started collecting it was partly because it was made in the USA
