My sister has a membership to a CSA this year and we got to go to an open house at their farm yesterday. It was neat to meet the people that put the CSA together and to see how they grow all of those vegetables that go out to all of their members. We also go to visit an amish farm near them that raises beef, they had a very beautiful farm as well.
In case anyone doesn't know, CSA is Community Supported Agriculture. It's a crop farm that raises vegetables and sometimes fruit, things that are seasonal and grow in their region and people buy shares in the CSA which gets them a box of produce once a week. The box averages out to enough produce to feed a family of 4 for a week, certain times it's less and others it's more.

We joined a CSA last year and again this year. even though we have a garden, they give us more variety than we grow ourselves. We get so many varieties of greens.
We went to a farmer's market today and bought tons of fruit as our CSA is strictly vegetables. It was so beautiful and it all tasted so good. We came home with pie cherries (which I made into a pie), blueberries, raspberries, plums, nectarines and homemade brushetta as well as my weakness, homemade rugulach. What a treat!! This will now be a family Sunday stop.

| Aren't CSA's fantastic? We've belonged to one for about six or seven years now, and from May through November we get all our produce almost exclusively from our CSA and/or farmer's market. I love eating seasonally, locally, and fresh! (But it makes the winter months very challenging at times! ;-) |

I love CSA's and usually you can do U-Pick at the CSA's as well. So if you can't afford the membership to the CSA weekly delivery, ask them what U-Pick cost will be.

It is a neat option for people, especially when you don't have access to do your own gardening. I love the variety as well! So many different greens and other things that I've never tried before.
