Okay, when you are sweating and sewing, somehow it loses some of its charm and relaxation. The tempatures here have been in the 90's and 100 for almost 3 weeks and not break till the middle of next week. Our normal temps this time of year are in the 80's. I just needed to whine some. Okay, any suggestions to be aware of with this kind of heat. They are giving us heat stroke and heat exhaustion warnings and saying not to go out expect for early morning and late evening. I have lived here for 8 years and never remember having one of those before. I am craving chips, think the salt is a little low. Okay, think I am maybe done with my stinking whining session, this and hot flashes really sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Y'all stay cool and enjoy your summer day! Carol Sue

Carol Sue-
Drink some gatorade, or eat a banana some chips and drink water. It sounds like with all that sweatin your electrolytes might be out of whack.
I drink cool water through out the day. I also get wash clothes just barely damp and then freeze them between pieces of wax paper. Those can really help cool off your forehead or back of the neck nicely with out getting you soaking wet.

Been drinking lots of water and ice tea, which I drink any way. Ate chips tonight and they didn't even taste salty. Yep, yep, way too low. Usually they taste pretty salty to me. I like the wash cloth being frozen. didn't think about that one. Thanks,

Be careful there! Don't get unbalanced with the fluids! Especially watch out if you get dizzy or start to feel feverish. My dad gets horrible heat/sun stroke. He has even been hospitalized with it so you learn to be really careful.

Well over on this side of the Mts. we had our one day heat wave. Fortunately we live up in the hills and it was only in the high 90s but we always have a gentle breeze. Yesterday was down in the high 70s. But today I am headed for Ritzville so I hope they are out of the 3 digits by the time I am there. I will be drinking plenty of water with electrolytes. MB

Carol Sue I'm in Moses Lake and it is absolutely baking here.Over a 100 for the past week, 105 yesterday and probably that today. We are having a room addition done and I feel so sorry for the workers, I have even been offering water tothem, the mail person and the UPS driver. That old joke about cooking an egg on the sidewalk, well no problem here and I think the bacon would cook as well. I've been eating alot of chips and salsa, you're right it's a salt thing. Hugs, Kathy |

Oh my you girls really are baking. We've had it in the high nineties and humid up until yesterday. It was cool enough then and today to have the windows open and the fans going without running the ac. Drink lots of fluids and do whatever it takes to stay cool. Heat/sun stroke is no fun. Hugs, Denise

Well we USUALLY get those temps but we havent been over 90 except for maybe a day or two and it wont quite raining! It's funny because I would GLADLY trade with you girls! I miss the hot. I want to enjoy my pool but haven't been able to because of all the rain. Usually the water in my pool is well into the lower 90's this time of year. This am it was only 82!!!
My advice if it stays hot. Get a small plastic kiddie pool at Walmart or whereever. Fill it up and soak away! I did that a few years when I first moved to Arkansas while I saved up to by a "real" pool. Our dogs use the kiddie pool now! Good luck girls!

Michelle- Do you need any white sheets to hang as curtains for your windows? I have tons to spare if you need.

Every summer seems like it gets hotter to me! I just try to avoid going outside past about 9, except early afternoon when I have to go check on the animals to make sure they are all ok and then evenings to feed. We have lost almost half our flock of chickens to the heat this summer-- they are just dropping like flies. I take the hose and give the cows a squirt and usually the kids come running for a squirt, too! Sometimes I let the hose run down the playground slide and the kids love that. I usually join in for a few turns! That and plenty of ice and Kool-aid. I am jealous of you all that are "only" in the 90's! :)

Molly-
Do you have shade for you chickens? What about one of those kiddy swimming pools? Do you think they would play in it?

The chickens are free to roam the yard, which gives them access to plenty of shade from trees, the playgrounds, even the porch (which my husband can't stand, as they leave their little "gifts" all over it for us!). There are fans on the porch, and a few water pans. There's an automatic waterer in the coop, and I leave the door to the henhouse open all day. The problem seems to be when they sit and lay! They are stubborn and won't get up until that egg drops, even if it means sitting in the nest box for an hour or more-- sometimes two of them at a time! The next step will be to get some fans in there. I tried leaving the nest lid open but the hens were too scared of being so vulnerable, I think, and didn't lay in the boxes that day-- instead all over the yard. It was like Easter. :)

Oh my gosh, eggs all over the yard. Michelle, pant, pant, pant is right. Julie, I wish you could send some rain our way although tonight they are talking thunderstorms, we are praying for no dry lightening, fire danger here has been extremely high for a while here. Winds are blowing too. Kathy, Moses Lake must be roasting, you are always warmer than we are. Stay cool girl. Molly, losing chickens doesn't sound like any fun. I don't think I would do good in Arizona if I can't handle this heat....we have fans on dd's bunnies right now. The thought of having fur in this heat...ughhhhhhh Suppose to only be in upper 80's next week, that will be a treat. Hope you all are having a great summer Alee, stay cool girl Michele, you too

Carol Sue-
I feel bad for poor little Nora! Our combined body heat makes nursing a bit interesting. We are drinking lots of water.
Oh I forgot! I haven't told you ladies yet! We had a bad thing happen today. We are lucky no one was hurt. The wind is blowing and you know how it can cause the air pressure to change in your house- resulting in doors slamming and such? Well the doors started slamming and I suddenly heard this big thunk-Thud! I was in the living room and though- oh no... that isn't what I though it was...was it? Yup. The air pressure pushed my swamp cooler out of our window and to the ground below. Our apartment is on the second floor. It still looks in pretty decent condition- but I am going to wait till Doug gets home to try turning it on. I want someone standing by in case of emergency. I am so lucky it didn't break a window or that someone wasn't walking below! Poor Swamp Cooler :( If it doesn't work, it will certainly be missed!
