| Did you hear about the baby left in the car at Grocery Outlet in Spokane? An employee spotted the baby locked inside the car in the sweltering heat and firemen broke a window and got the baby out. When they contacted the mom inside the store she said "I forgot I had a baby." How about you - any of you ever forget you had a child? I'm pretty sure I haven't. |

I never leave my child. If she is sleeping and I wanted to do grocery shopping or something else that would require me to get out, I save it for another day or time when I can go, or I wake her up and take her with me if I have to leave the car. A lady that brings her daughter to the same summer school my daughter goes to leaves her 12 month old son in the car all the time. She will sometimes leave it running but I'm always afraid that someone will steal a running car with her child in it. I usually wait till she gets back into the car before I take my child in so I can watch her little one and make sure everything is ok. Last time she was inside chatting for 10 minutes and her child was in the car, I got frustrated and went in with my child and asked if she forgot her little one today, she said "Oh, I guess that's my cue to leave." and then left. The nerve of some people, but I guess she forgets she has another child, too. I think leaving a child in the car happens alot more than I wish to think. There was a case of one lady who left her child in the car while she was working in the parking garage of the place of employment. The child didn't survive, you would think with cases like this making the news people would know better.

| I remember a case where we used to live a few years ago. The baby was asleep when mom got home, so she left her in the car seat instead of waking her up. Mom went inside and started watching a movie and fell asleep. When she woke up, baby was already dead. And that was in western washington where it doesn't get so hot. I can imagine how hot it was in that car in Spokane or in Georgia. Some people should have to have a license to have babies. |

Oh my Gosh! I can't even imagine leaving Nora in the car! Oh that just breaks my heart and makes me want to cry! Those poor babies! Can you imagine what their home life is like? Okay- I can't dwell on this- I am crying now. Some people should just not be allowed to have kids!!!

That is really terrible. Thankfully someone acted & the baby is ok! I know it has happened here before. I have heard of plenty of daycares leaving children on a van because they fell asleep & didn't take a count of the kids. Not that they are the only ones this happens to though.
I also read on a pet site that even if you leave the windows cracked or park in the shade, the car can reach 102 in 10 minutes & 120 degrees in 20 minutes on an 85 degree day. Here is the link that shows the car temps at different times & on different days... you can also print off a flyer to place on cars of people you see leaving dogs in their car. http://www.mydogiscool.com/x_car_study.php Maybe if more people had this info they would be more careful. It obviously doesn't just apply to pets any longer. Maybe it should be a reminder on the news too. I believe a lot of people just don't think it gets that hot.
Luckily for adults, we have the ability to unlock doors or car seats & get out. I really don't know how you can forget you have a child. Especially a woman which has already carried it for 9 months.

That's such a sad story--the part that gets me is that she said she didn't remember having a baby. It reminds me TOO well of one of my past co-worker's. Her DIL suffered from post-pardum depression, though I don't think anyone really noticed her issues, and took her baby to the river and left her to drown. Her husband came home from work, and she was making this romantic dinner, and was all decked out like it was a date. He asked her where their baby was? She looked at him like he had three heads. They found the poor little thing a few days later. She kept saying, "you people are nuts. we don't HAVE a baby!" I shudder everytime I think of the lady I worked with--her first grandchild. So terrible! Sure hope this gal isn't minding the babe anymore and that she also gets some help!

Oh my gosh. I can't beleive there are people out there that sick..to do something like that. Just so sad. I hope the baby has a nice new mom who will care for it now!!!!!!!!!

| Oh my God that is just a pure sin. Do you girls not have laws against this sort of thing here you get fined for leaving a dog locked in car in hot weather. But these people should have a law against them for having children in thier care! Myself I would call Child protection services on these people. |

We have laws here about leaving children in cars after there were too many cases of people leaving their children to go and gamble at the casino. It includes children up to the age of 10, so not just littlies. But I still see heaps of little children in cars in the carpark at the supermarket or wherever. Last summer a two year old girl died in a car - it was awful. I certainly don't know how you can forget you have a baby. I am the exact opposite - if hubby takes my little one out for a while, I keep thinking I need to go and check on him!
