Trina--my heart is with you! I volunteer at our VA facility in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky and I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse--the PTSD floor is filled.
I guess what I'm trying to say is your dh isn't alone in this, and neither are you.

Trina,
you are so right about PTSD, when my daddy came back from Korea, he suffered from bouts of nightmares, anger and fear for the future.... Sadly his way of couping was to turn to a bottle, and thus alcohal became his his demond. It took many years to get past that horrible tour of duty. He retired after 24 years of military duty. Even though he mentally struggled he was true & loyal to the Military & to this Great Nation.
I pray for your husband & his release from the horrors of his PTSD demonds.

Hi Trina!
Thanks so much for writing about that on your blog. I think that we need to remember the troops just as much on July 4th as we do on Memorial Day and Vetrans day. We wouldn't have an independent nation with out them!

Trina,
Very well spoken girlfriend! My husband is a Vietnam Vet who has PTSD. He is so much better than when we first got married. Out of 12 buddies, he is the only one left..... due to PTSD. They know so much more than they did, but it doesn't seem to be enough and as my dh says our boys are coming home worse than his group did. So many times our soldiers don't even understand what is happening to them, don't understand truly that there is a problem. The more informed we become the more we can help those around us. I am glad you are helping those around us and us become more aware.

Trina,
I am thinking of you and your family and hoping and praying that all will work out for you. I too think it is so important to remember all our fighting men and women. My dad has a friend with PTSD from Vietnam who dealt with it alone for many years - he is only now seeking counselling. It is very sad to hear that there is still a stigma attached to it and so many do not seek the help they need and deserve.

Thankyou for looking at my tribute. Although I will always believe in America, I want the entire world to know what our system is doing to our soldiers. They are giving the best of their lives and many are being abandoned once they are no longer any use to the military. I recently read of ampute vets being discharged with out benefits! Can you believe that? A visable wound that will affect them and their families for the rest of thier lives and the military does not want to compensate them in anyway! PTSD can often be overlooked for years, but you don't fail to notice that someone has had thier leg blown off in an IED attack. IMO...We have no business fighting a war if we cannot take care of our returning troops.

oh, Joni--I am not at all suprised that the PTSD ward in the VA is full. I just wish I knew where all those family members were! I have been looking for a PTSD support group (I live near and post and a VA, so you think their would be one) with not luck. Another thing you may find interesting is, the hospital staff here at Bragg told me that most of thier PTSD patients are Special Forces Soldiers (like my husband) and that because of thier advanced training they are the hardest to get through to.

I'm thinking about doing just that. I will go talk to the post social worker tomorrow and if he hasn't been able to dig one up (I got him looking though his channels), I am going to ask him about getting one started.
