My daughter and I are preparing to make our first batch of soap on Saturday. We have a very good book that Missy bought for me about 5 years ago. However, as we are reading it some of the directions are a little confusing. Specifically, when to cut the soap. One part of the book says to cut it after 48 hours if the soap is hardened but still leaves an imprint when touched. Another part says to take the soap from the mold, wait 2 weeks, then cut.

When do all of your soapmakers cut your soap? It would make sense to me to do it when it is softer then put the bars on rack to cure.

I do it when it is firm but not two weeks! Heavens..it would be so hard to cut without chipping! About 2 or 3 days at most. Sometimes it is ready to cut right out of my big mold..24 hours after I make it. Depends on the soap.
