I did this in high school if I had a pimple that was really big and not quit ready to pop (ewwww I know) my big sister told me to put a dab of toothpaste on it. I don't know if it was her joke or not but it did work and I would put a dab on the pimple right before bed and by morning when I washed off the dried dab it was gone. Has anyone else tried this? My DH dosen't believe me and won't try it with his minor breakouts.

I do it and I think it works great. I've also used windex but like the toothpaste better. Plus if it is a sore one the mint helps to sooth it!

Oh how wild!!
I had forgotten ALL about this!
You are so right!
I remember doing this at Camp one Summer..
Who knows who's idea it was.. But we all were doing it..
Boy did we look Hilarious! Tooth Paste Chicken Pox looking or worse..
But wasn't it suppose to be like a white pasted tooth paste, I think ? Seems like i remember that.. Not the gell kind.. Right..
Well.. maybe we just didn't HAVE the gell kind when i was a Kid???
Something in the tooth paste has an Astingent in it though..
Too Funny ! I'm so glad you reminded me of this..
I'll have to tell My 15 year old nephew Zach about it.. He already thinks I'm a Kook... This will just nail it for him..

Cool Helpful advice!! Thanks!

Well, um. ah....many (and I mean many!) years ago, I heard from a friend of a friend etc that toothpaste would also fade hickies!!!! Not that I have ever put it to the test of course!!!!!
Now that I am in my 40's, I have discovered that pimples will be a realty of my more mature years! Oh joy, something else to be excited about! So, hey, I'm game to try the toothpaste on my spots (as we say in England) My husband will just love it I know! That last "goodnight I love you" kiss, surrounded by the frangrance of spearmint! Boy, it just doesn't get any better than that!
Angie (if I could figure out all the 'faces' I could have probabaly used them all in this dissitation!(LOL!)

My dog scratched my neck when my husband had the bright idea of putting him in the swimming pool (the dog weighs 180 pounds). Although he likes the water being lifted over a four foot pool wall wasn't his idea of fun (not mine eaither) and he freaked out and scratched me with a claw while flailing around. It brused really bad around the cut and kind of looks like a hickie-gone-wrong! MAybe the toothpaste will help that!

I think it's the chlorine in most toothpastes that makes it useful for these things. Heck, I use mine as silver polish in a pinch.

I use all natural toothpaste which contains no chlorine and no chemicals. It still works with me so not sure what it is!

Hmm. Tea tree oil, maybe? I was thinking, also some toothpastes have hydrogen peroxide in them. Funny -- here I am pushing 60, and I woke up this AM with a giant zit on my cheek. Used toothpaste. It was gone by noon. Go figure!

BE CAREFUL WITH TEA TREE OIL!!! Tea tree oil used as say an essential oil alone without any kind of soap or something to soften the blow, it can burn very badly!!
Though it works well as antiseptic, it is harsh! :)

Jesse, I actually don't use tea tree oil, ever. You name as good a reason as any, but I first became aware of the net negative ecological impact of all the hype about it back in the 1980s. Now there are "tea tree farms," but the whole issue just left me thinking I'd rather not play in that park, y'know?

I tend to avoid "exotic" treatments when my local weeds (and honey made with their help) are just what nature ordered. I mentioned tea tree oil in my post above because I know some "natural" toothpastes list it as an ingredient.

I use tea tree oil (organic and friendly farmed....Rosemary, I have read crazy things about it too! My herbal guy orders only the good stuff;) ) on blemishes and I use it straight. One could dilute it in some vit E or some almond oil so it is less harsh.

Chamomile oil is also pretty good for pimples as is lavender. You could also just make a pultice from fresh flowers along with soem plantain perhaps to help dry it out and heal the infection quickly. Afterall, this is all a pimple is, is an infection.

Rosemary brings up a great point about oils though, just becuase it is an essential oil, doesn't mean you should buy it. Some oils are not farmed sustainably or even close to a healthy way. It's good to be aware of the company practices before you buy from them.

There are a number of MLM herbal and oil companies now. I would be HIGHLY skeptical of them. MLM's are NOTORIOUS for sub-par quality and sub-par practices in general. I can think of two off hand that I wouldn't trust, but have really kept mum about them because a few people here tout their praises.

Okay, enouh og my mini-rant

Another idea for pimples is Milk of Magnesia. I personally, am sensitive to mint, so I have used the plain, dotted on a zit. The magnesium holds 400x its weight in oil, so it can overnight, flatten a zit right out. Fantastic!

The toothpaste thing also works on bee stings. My family was camping last weekend and a small party stepped on a bee hive in the woods. My brother's five year old stepdaughter got 10-20 stings. The people in the next cabin offered toothpaste for her stings. They said their pediatrician told them to use it. It seemed to work well. Less messy than mud, which is what my mom always smeared on us when we were kids. Again, it has to be the non-gell kind.

Nin,
too funny,,,,I have never used diaper rash creame, but I use to use "Nivia Creame", but now it is to rich for my skin so I just use virgin olive oil lightly on my skin.
Oh, & yes, I have used "Hemmoroide Creame" to reduce the puffyness under my eyes, but I have noticed it doesn't work as well any more. lol!

Well...I'll have to try the toothpaste. I have a humdinger on the tip of my nose and it hurts. :(
