Hello All, Just wondering how you all honor the Summer Solstice. Any special celebrations or rituals? I am a light person and try to stay outside until dark on that day. Soak up all the light I can! Love to hear your ideas! ~ Clare

The last couple of years, a friends has had a party. This year, I may take the kids and go east of here to Spiro Mounds (SPIRO MOUNDS. Spiro Mounds, one of Oklahoma's most important prehistoric

A couple of other families, along with mine, have been having a Summer Solstice party for three years now. We drive up to the top of Squaw Butte, the highest point in the hills/mtns ringing our valley, and watch the sun go down. Then we go back to one of our houses and have a party until midnight.
We don't attach any religious significance to the day other than to acknowledge that others do (and we've had kids do reports on it in homeschool), but I'm part of a group of friends who will take ANY excuse to get together and have a party! |

It's here again next week, girls!! I have really been soaking up the light, still. It's hard to go to bed at 9pmish (I get up early), when it is so light out.
How will each of you honor the day? I will most likely do my usual thing of staying up late. Dr. Christiane Northrup has a good suggestion... at the solstices and equinoxes are perfect times for re-evaluating where you are in your life, goals, dreams, etc... and to make appropriate changes as necessary. If you do it four times a year, you're more likely to stay in balance... So I will incorporate that idea too.
So, whatdoyasay girls, cup of your favorite tea outside at 9:30pm? Meet ya there!

I am planning on going out to my wheat field a cutting an arm load of ripe, golden wheat and bringing it indoors. I have an old florist flower bucket to put the wheat in. Bringing the energy and bounty of the harvest into my home. If any of you live nearby wheat, oats, barley, ect fields these simple arrangements bring the energy and beauty of nature into your home. Just ask permissioin from the land owner and make sure there are no family allergies! I have women ask to cut wheat from my fields for weaving/decoration purposes and I am always happy to let them do so. The full Strawberry moon coinsides with the solstice I think! That will make it even more light and beautiful!

I just asked some friends on another messageboard for solstice celebration ideas, so this is wonderful! (And yes, the full moon is on Wednesday, the 22nd.)
I plan on inviting a few friends over, having a fire outside in our backyard "fireplace", and just soaking up all of the light as long as I can. Maybe some food and a little bit of wine/mead for good measure ;-)

Welcome laluna! Glad you are here joining in! We have some great discussions and ideas and advice flowing here. I like your solstice ideas. Do you make your own mead? Where I am at it would be too hot for a fire, but that is the way the old ways were celebrated at the summer solstice. Enjoy the day! Jenny

This is the first year we will try a Summer Sol. celebration . It will just be my husband, my son and myself, but I plan to have a special / seasonal dinner outside on the deck with strawberry shortcake for dessert . Probably some time during the day my son and I will make some kind of sun symbol craft or somthing like that . Then to top everything off he will be allowed to stay up as late as the sun does . That will be almost an extra 2hrs for him so he is excited . I am hoping this will be the beginning of an annual thing for us .

Thank you for the welcome! I only wish I had more time to spend here reading through all of the great ideas and discussions. But the school year is nearly over for me, so hopefully this summer...
And I do not make my own mead, but a friend of mine does, so I've asked him to share :-) I hope you all enjoy the day tomorrow - it's supposed to be a beautiful one here! |

We are just having an outdoor dinner with friends here tonight and the kids are camping out in the back yard so there will be a "camp fire" and all that goes with it. Maybe there will be more singing!
The moon was beautiful here last night and we ate out late , so I'm hoping for a repeat tonight. I'll raise a glass to all of you!

I toasted each Farmgirl, Farmboy and Farmrascal tonight! Now to venture back outdoors to see if I can catch the full moon before I turn into a pumpkin! It was a blessed day.
