My Husbands 90yr old grandma had to be put in a home this summer and she loves pies. She told me once her favorite is an old time Raison Creme pie. I would like to make one for her and take it to the nursing home but haven't found a good recipe.

Do any of you good people... Have one?

Thanks again for you help.

Was it Sour Cream Raisin pie? I worked in a restaurant that made that all the time. I don't have a recipe but check allrecipes.com. Do a search under the desserts category. It's there with MANY variations.

Nikki,
I make sour cream raisin pies often, here is my recipe.
1 cups cream ( I always use just thick whipping cream not sour)
1 cups sugar
2 eggs 1 t vanilla
1 cups raisins
Mix the cream, sugar, eggs and vanilla well then add the raisins. Pour into a unbaked pie shell (some like a graham cracker crust). Bake at 375 for about 45 minutes or until a knife comes out clean.
This is one of my sons favorite pies. Hope you enjoy it.

My Mom has a yummy one that contains vinegar -- it makes a lovely texture I can ask her for it if you like.

Garmax18.. Thank you so much for your recipe.. I look forward to trying it out. Do I soak the raisons in water or put them in right out of the box? I don't bake a whole lot thats why I ask.

ArmyWifey.. I would definitely love to have your mom's recipe as well.

She will be tickled when I bring her one. Thanks so much.

Nikki

My Mom and I would go to a place called Poppin Fresh Pie. They had this great sour cream raisin. I would love to find a recipe like that one. What a great memory, she died 15 yrs ago.

It isn't necessarily a "cream" pie nowdays but it is a very good rasin pie.

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground allspice
3 or 4 eggs, well beaten
3 to 4 tbsp vinegar
1 cup raisins
1-- 8 or 9 inch unbaked pie shell
cream sugar butter cinnamon and allspice add eggs vinegar and raisins pour into pie shell . Bake at 400 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes reduce temperature to 200 degrees and bake until done may freeze before baking.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

Nikki, No you do not soak the raisins. You just put them in the cream mixture, stir and pour into the pie shell and bake.
