I have recently had to renters move out of my grandparents old home, it is obvious that the lady of the house didn't believe in house cleaning because you can see where the kids walked across the carpet with dirty feet over and over again and it is imbedded into the carpet. I was wondering if anyone out there knew of a way to clean the carpet.

Hi Debbie!

Welcome to the forum!

One thing that has worked wonders for my mom (7 grandkids, now 8, 1 dog, and 2 cats) is using the cleaner called Simple Green to shampoo the carpets. Use a dilute forumla in a rug shampooer. It really gets out all those oils from the bottoms of feet and from animals really well. Of course color test any fabric before using any cleaner.

20 Mule Team Borax. Mix up a solution of it (about 1/4 cup of 20 MTB to 1 gallon of water) to pre-treat the stained areas and shampoo as normal. HTH! ~ K

Oh, thank goodness! I'll have to give those a try. I've got a high-traffic tough spot on the carpet we just paid off...grrr. 10 year stainproof my left foot! :) Next time I am tempted to put in black carpet. Take in a jar of dirt and have the carpet guy find a match. :) Just gotta laugh, crying is no fun.

You can also heat up club soda and use that in the carpet shampooer as well.

Michelle- You crack me up! :) I actually know a woman that did pretty much what you said! She told them that she needed her carpet to hide everything from dog hair to tractor grease!

Kaylyn - can you just mix up a bowl of this and scrub the spots? I don't have access to a rug shampooer.

Sherri- You can mix up a bowl and scrub the spots, just make sure to let it dry really well and then vacuum like crazy afterwards to get the powder out of the carpet. Also you can rent rug Shampooers from most grocery stores and WalMarts.

We have contractor beige carpet. You know, the stuff the builders choose. It is cheap quality and the stains are unpreventable. When my youngest gets about 4 or 5 I want shag carpet the same color as Oklahoma Red Dirt! : )
