Forever!! Well, last year I planted 75 strawberry plants. They were very immature plants and we had no harvest, but over the year they grew and grew and I was able to split them and start new plants this year. Now, all of the plants have begun to produce and I have strawberries coming out my ears!!! Not complaining!! Thought you might like to see my beauties.......This was just one of 15 heaping quarts....and I probably only picked a tenth of what yet needs to ripen. Yikes.....not sure if my freezer is big enough!

Keep Smiling.....Bev

Oooooooooooh! There would be quite a few that would not even make it into the freezer at my house. They look sooooo good. Enjoy!

So lucky! They are absolutely lovely--gorgeous color and even better to eat! I sure wish I had luck with them. I've only tried small scale, in a strawberry pot, but before they even turned somewhat pinkish the birdied got em!

Oh well, they need to eat too, I suppose :)

Those strawberries look absolutely delicious! I wish I had a place for strawberry plants too! Enjoy your bumper crop. I'm sure you'll have lots of preserves to get you through the winter.

Yum! I third the motion for a u-pick field! Maybe you could put a sign on the road and let people do an honor system? Or only do it on a Saturday or something when you can be out their to monitor it.

Well, here is the solution for now. I tried a new recipe for jam (my own) and I think I may have gotten it right for once!

Oh pooey....I just realized that the sugar was not organic....so my label has to go!! Oh well, this is only for our own consumption....

Keep Smiling.....Bev

Bev, That will be easy enough to fix on the next batch! Organic sugar may be a bit more expensive but you will REALLY be able to use that label! The jars look too cute!

Beautiful strawberries! In high school our father had acres of strawberries and we had to get up before school to pick them. We had other help picking but we were out there b4 and after school, saturdays. We especially didn't mind because we got paid by the quart...20cents. We had contests in the field to see who could pick the most and not leave any in the row. We made it fun. We made enough money to buy ourselves new swimsuits and money for our jr.sr. weekends at the beach. We ate our share as we made our way up and down the rows. By the end of the day we were sold out! It was a good business. Strawberry shortcake was a favorite treat then and still is. We foun d the perfect cake mix to use. Tried them all and this one is by far the best. Duncan Hines Butter Recipe Cake Mix. Bake the cake in a sheet pan. I put hulled strawberries in a large metal bowl ,sprinkle a good amt. of sugar over them and chop them up with a hand held chopper. I leave them pretty chunky. The sugar makes the berries very juicy. Spoon strawberries over a square of cake in a small dish and top with Cool Whip. It is simple to make and delicious. Try it.

Tracy-

Those sound wonderful! Don't you just love the taste of freshly grown and picked strawberries? I love strawberries so much, but it seems like the ones in the store just don't have the same level of flavor. They seem washed out to me. I am going to see if I can't find some strawberry plants at one of the nurseries in town. Perhaps I could get a small crop this year and more next year.
