I just finished the first sock for my Ravenclaw partner in the Hogwarts Sock Swap and thought I would share here.
Yarn: Regia Silk (merino/silk blend)
Pattern: Also a blend -- Knitty.com's "Universal Toe-Up Formula" with "Moving Staircases" pattern from Vogue Stitchionary 3
The sock is really tight to get on due to the slip-stitch patterning, but once you finally tug it on, it fits like a dream. I'm hoping my partner won't mind too much!

I love your sock too, Catherine! It's great! The person I'm knitting for in this swap is allergic to wool & mohair, so I went with a Manos de Uruguay cotton yarn that's a little bulkier. I'm doing a pattern from the internet for cotton socks - I think it's called a Salt & Pepper pattern. It's got twisted stitches & ribs, hopefully to compensate for cotton's un-stretchiness.
I've never had real good luck with cotton socks, so hopefully this one will work out! If it's one tenth as nice as yours, I'll be verry happy!

Oh my CAtherine..beautiful!!! I am working on some plain jane brown socks right now..I will have to do something pretty for the next pair. Husband didn't want pretty..haha.
I LOVE that pattern. I havn't tried toe up knitting for socks yet..that is a must do also..I love the idea of all the extra yarn being left for longer cuffs if I want.!
Pretty colors too..how fuN!

Catherine- What fabulous socks!! Sock making is something I have not tried. I am just a bit intimidated by the whole process. But, this fall I plan on taking a class. I have to make some cuteness for my feet!

| The sock is awesome! I love the pattern. I stuck with the basics for Kathy on this one. Simple rib pattern but the yarn is pretty fun and very soft. A funny thing happened when I was making my first practice sock. I took it into my lys fro soem help at the gussett and she noticed that I was knitting it inside out. (I don't know why but that always happens when I knit small things in the round.) Anyway she turned right side out. When I went home and kept knitiing, i was still knitting inside out. So now it half right side out half inside out on the same side. I abandoned that one for now and started my HOgwart's socks instead. Your pal is gonna love those Catherine! |
