I found the most wonderful..um..let's call it a recipe for homemade baby wipes! I have two little ones still in diapers, and wipes can be sooo expensive when you go through them as quickly as we do at our house. Anywas, I was scouting around when I was in an "totally-out-of-wipes-not-even-a-smell-left-in-the-box" pinch. SO here it is:
2cups warm water
1 tbsp. unscented baby oil
1 tbsp. baby bath wash
1 roll of multipurpose papertowels (the soft kind are nicer :))
Cut paper towel roll in half horizontally. Remove inner tubing.
In lg. bowl combine all ingredients. Put papers towels in old wipe box, tupperware, or ziploc bag. (Anything that can seal securly closed). Pour the mix over the wipes and allow to soak in before using.
They are so soft and the babies seem to appreciate them more as they do not contain the alcohol that normal wipes do. Alcohol can burn those little rashed bottoms so badly!!

I've tried this before (with the first daughter) and liked it, other than that the paper towels get to where you can't grab them and tear tehm apart easily. Another similar thing I've done is to wash the store-bought wipes after using them (provided they aren't too dirty or gross) and then put them in the solution you posted. After being washed, the wipes plump up like little washcloths. They last through several machine washings.

That's awesome. I never thought to wash them before..lol..Though, a few stray ones have hit the washer every once in a while. You are right about the ripping thing. I found that if I rip them ahead of time (time consuming in the beginning but great in the end) and put them in a stackable box that they pull out easier. Then I just wet them after they are in the box.

This is a great idea! We don't have a baby but we always have wipes handy. But they are SOOO expensive! I'm going to try this!

I've heard that baby wipes are good to use to dust wood furniture as well as make-up remover, so while at local store yesterday bought the cheapest box I could find to try this principle out. your idea could be used for polishing furniture as well. Will give it a try when I run out of wipes. Thanks for the tip.

What about baby oil? Isn't it a petroleum product or am I wrong? Is there a different oil would apricot be ok? I've seen thias recipe and was hesitant because of the baby oil. Such a great idea. Those little baby towels would work or cut up out of use diapers.
Tasha would vitamin e work as a preservative also?

I love to use Huggies wipes to wash my face. I also use baby shampoo as a make-up remover. It is very effective.

I agree with Tasha, but on all three of my children I have just bought face cloths (those nice soft baby ones) and used them with plain old warm water and then put them in the nappy bucket to be washed with the nappies. Works perfectly!

I tried her recipe using almond oil, burt's bees baby wash and water and it is fine. Also, smells wonderful. I would think they might mold if we didn't use them so fast.
