It has been quite an adventure to get on to this forum, but luckily I am in now, thanks Carol. I am French from birth, married to a Canadian, and we live an expat life since we left Canada, job related moves. We are now in Kuwait, in the Arabic Gulf. When I was little my dad had a farm in southern France, he raised chicken, turkey and latter on, he also had wild boars. Then he would grow roses for the perfume industry. My dream is to have a little farm in Canada when we retire. In Kuwait we get all sort of local produces, some we do not have back in Canada, like fresh figs, apricots, kumkats, so I can and make jam with whatever is in season. I also do lots of quilting, this keeps me safe and in the shadow, since the weather is already in the 90 degres F. I have been reading the posts for a while and am very happy to be part of this wonderful community.

Thanks Jenny, it feels so good to be here. I do most of my quilts by hand, piecing and quilting, with traditional patterns. I finished a few months back a Lemoine stars, made out of some feedsacks and some old shirting. I am so found of feedsacks... When I figure how to post pictures, I will put some up. I am now quilting a patriotic square in a square one, even packed it in my suitcase since we are leaving tonight on holidays. What kind of quilts do you do yourself ?

I love to do the hand quilting part..but usually peice by machine. I like traditional patterns too. And I LOVE feedsacks and vintage fabrics. I use alot of reproduction vintage stuff too. I have a couple in the works right now.. a basketweave pattern in earthtones with alot of peach, and an underground railroad sampler quilt too. Have fun on holiday!!

Glad you're with us Corinne! My husband came to the U.S. from Iran when he was 15. You sound like you've lived a very full & interesting life so far! Keep us posted on your life there in Kuwait. I had a friend from there, he left just before the Iraqi invasion. It sounds like a beautiful & unique country. Try to post pictures too when you can.

Welcome Corrinelouise, Stay safe. If you have the opportunity to post pictures of your quilts please do. Aren't fresh figs yummy? I have 1 fig tree in my yard, the purple type & I love walking out in the mid day, picking & eating them fresh off the tree. I also love the smell of a fig tree. I press a leaf between my hands and just sniff away. I am sure my neighbors thing I am a bit looney standing in my yard sniffing tree leaves!!!

Hello Dawn and Grace, thanks for the welcome posts, it is sweet. I am leaving on holidays tonight, one week in France and 3 in Canada, but I will have access to a computer so I can be in touch. For the pictures though, you will have to wait for our return, and yes, I will write about my life in Kuwait. Love fig trees, the smell and the taste of ripe fruits... and the leaves. If you dry them and them crush them in a potpourri, that smell perdures a long time. |
