My Pop is a Master Gardener and his hands are always chapped from tending his soil. He asked me what could he use to smooth his hands and when I told him to use Bag Balm he looked at me strange and said; "I thought that was for cow udders?" I said; "Yes and it has other uses as well." He loves the stuff now.

Me too! I clean houses and I always say my hands feel like sandpaper. Stuff works great! Have a tube in the bathroom, next to my bed, and in my purse. It gives me relief from terribly dry hands. Susan

We use Bag Balm for everything - my daughter used to carry a can of it around with her in her baseball bag when she was playing competative fast pitch. Drew some funny looks from the big city girls when they played in the Seattle area!

It is nice stuff...and pretty easy to find. They used to sell it at Walgreens, don't know if they still do or not.

Bag Balm is the best! My mom always kept a container in the medicine cabinet. My dad was a mechanic and his hands used to get so dry and cracked, especially in the winter time. It was the only thing that helped.

We use this stuff on our dogs when they get "hot spots" during the summer. Works great.

I use this for my hands, for the dogs and when my chickens have pecked each other, I put it on their spots. It is a great healing salve!!

I have a story about Bag Balm. One cold morning when my oldest daughter had just started driving, she went out to start her car to warm up for school. She heard an awful sound and realized our kitten had been up under the hood of her car. She came running in, crying and upset. DH went out and found the kitten huddled up by the house. The fan belt had peeled the skin away from it's body, it's tail was cut off and it's back leg was just dangling. It was a real mess. DH slathered it with Bag Balm, set it's broken leg with two popsicle sticks, and pulled it's skin back in place and wrapped it with gauze. Then he brought it in the house and put it on a towel in front of the fireplace. Believe it or not, that kitty stayed there in the house, with him redressing it daily, and healed back to almost normal. No infection or anything, and it was able to use it's leg just fine. Then it moved back outside and the coyotes got it.

Bag balm is great stuff. My mom kept it in the house all the time. Sherri -- I thought your story was going to have a happy ending. Then I got to the last sentence! Actually, I had to kind of laugh because of the way you worded the sentence. Just so matter of fact.

My DH has put it on his hands at night before going to bed, then puts on cloth gloves to keep it from getting all over the sheets. His hands get very dry in the winter months when working outside. The one thing we have found that works better is called "Hands and Feet." It comes in a little blue container and it gets squeezed on like lotion. Then you rub it in for a while and the dry skin starts to fall of and 'wallah' the dry hands are much better. We have gotten this at Walmart, but I am guessing other places have it. It is about $5.00 for a small bottle, but it is amazing.

When I was married to my first husband, we were very young (20 and 21) and we lived in his mother's old trailer after she moved out (BIGGGGGG MISTAKE!!!!), but anyway...his identical twin brother got married to a very spoiled rich-girl wannabee a few years later. Well, for Christmas we were in a pickle, they were living the ritzy life in a city and we were living in a broken down trailer saving for a house. So, we reluctantly splurged and got them some expensive pieces of china to match their set even though we did not have the money.

She got me BAG BALM!!! I thought it was a joke!! But no, Bag Balm! I asked my husband, "Is this for my udders?" No one knew what it was for. Of course it was the family joke for years (she moved onto another husband after she took my brother-in-law for everything...she told him she was leaving him while they were on vacation in the Bahamas).

I still use Bag Balm, but laugh still when I see the can.

My father is a dermatologist and he often recommended Bag Balm for very dry skin, rather than an expensive prescription.

We use it on diaper rash on my youngest grandchild. Heals it up nicely and very fast.

In the winter my hands get so dry and around my fingernails the skin splits. I'm going to get some of that Bag Balm and have it ready for my hands this winter. Where does one get this? Thanks for the great suggestion.

Thanks for that news. I will certainly be on the lookout for it. Does it have a smell?

I use Bal Balm on my hands daily. In the winter when I have to be outside in the cold and wind, I also use it on my face when it gets terribly dry. And I have very sensitive skin. It works just great.

I used it all the time when the kids were in diapers. It was much nicer to use then other diaper creams. Always worked too. I've used it on my dry sore feet too, right before bed with socks. Have even used it as chap stick once or twice.
It doesn't really have a smell, it just smells like balm, if that makes sence!

Once, I had just gotten a new tin and my 2 oldest got up on the changing table and into the tin. They had it smeared all over them selves, the changing table, the window, the wall... Oh my it was hard to get out of the clothes!

I find it smells a wee bit like mint...spearmint maybe? anyway...we use it on our cows udders. Also, I use it on my feet, hands, hemmrhoids (the odd time I get them). I have also used it on a cold sore. there is a popular country singer Shania Twain that uses it as a face cream...and she has beautiful skin!!
