Hi all. I'm a stay-at-home mom of 4 (ages 10 - 4). Displaced farmgirl with a musician husband who works for the railroad (Trainmaster is his official title, mine is Everything-Else-Master, which pays less, but is far more interesting).
I've been a devoted fan for--well-always! I've read, reread, read again all the mags, both books, except the first issue of course, but until now have not joined in to say hi. My free time, ha, is filled with knitting, quilting, sewing, learning to tat & crochet, reading, baking, cooking, gardening when I'm not busy moving, plotting ways to get back on the farm, oh yeah, and homeschooling.
We're moving (again) next week to Indiana--which is more than slightly stressful because this is only a temporary move before we move who knows where for husband's work in approximately 3 to 6 months. Confused? Me too. What complicates matters is squeezing all of us and our stuff into a largish 3 bedroom apartment. Scary when you consider the contents of my sewing room, kitchen, etc, etc.
Whine, whine, whine. Quite the intro--you can guess I don't get out much. Haven't had the chance to make friends for awhile--any positive response will be slobbered over with the enthusiasm of a small dog with a very large bone.
Taking a deep breath now and slowly backing away from the coffee,

We're going to be in the North West region, so I'm told, but it seems to be on the edge of that area to me--Valparaiso, ever heard of it? Hoping to find quilt shop/yarn shop/junk shop/used book store there.

Welcome Sherri, I"m sure you'll find lots of friends here. Valpo is a beautiful town, just over the IN/IL border. You can easily go visit Chicago or other areas around IL without too much trouble. IN is a very beautiful state, it's not all industrial! Enjoy your Midwestern summer, there's lots to see & do around here. Hopefully your next move will be to the farm area of your dreams.

Welcome Sherri!
You have a great sense of humor- I love your writing style. Welcome to the forums! I know you are going to fit right in here!
I absolutly HATE moving so my heart goes out to you. Does your husbands job always require you to move so often or is this just something that happens occasionally?
Chatting with the ladies here is a great way to socialize when you don't have the time to get out. I live in Moscow, ID which is a friendly community but sometimes can be hard to really connect with people and establish friend ships, so this community has really been wonderful. It sounds like you might be in a similar circumstance?
Welcome!

Welcome Sherri! I work right here in beautiful downtown Valparaiso, Indiana! Hope you like it here--let me know when you're settled and maybe we can get together sometime - I know there are at least 2 or 3 other farmgirls in the area--maybe we can all get together.

Hi Sherri, welcome! I can relate to that, I've moved plenty of times in my life. We moved from Massachusetts to Texas in 2002 (drove all the way, hubby driving the moving van, me following in my ancient station wagon with nine dogs as my traveling companions) and I never want to move again, lol. I hope you have a smooth move too, it's great to have you here! :-)
Hugs.. Jeannie

First off, thank you all for being so understanding and supportive, I've had no online access for about a week, otherwise I would have replied to your posts sooner. I hope I'm not breaking protocal here by responding on the same thread or whatever. 'Course I've always kind of gotten a kick out of breaking protocal, shattering illusions, and being generally not what I'm expected to be!
So, we made it. We've been here one week and I'm about halfway unpacked, I haaattte moving--we've done it alot too, so I'm really rather good at it, but I hate it still. Here's a prime example as to why:
Friday afternoon--arrived with 4 whining children; 2 spastic, stressed cats; couple of suitcases and hubby.
Saturday morning--pro movers arrive and proceed to unload large moving truck at 9 a.m., practically afternoon if you gauge it by my rooster of a son's internal alarm clock, but apparently far too early for the surrounding neighbors to appreciate the subtle charms of large sweaty men carrying heavy objects up an extremely long flight of stairs several thousand times while their sattelite radio blares the top 100 most hated country songs of all time (and I like country; spent 10 years in Middle Tennessee). P--- off people across the way by blocking their drive and polluting the air with music.
Saturday afternoon--new neighbors hate me already. Movers gone after being really nice guys and not throwing boxes of breakables up the stairs after 4 hours and 90 degree heat. I lose my children amongst approximately 92 thousand boxes, sit down, consider weeping, consider placing a sign on it all and selling each box for $1 each if only someone will haul it away, wonder--again--where all this stuff came from and where it will all go. How bad can it be? you may wonder. Imagine trying to stuff a Winnebago into a Mini Cooper. There's a visual aid for you.
Sunday--unpack, unpack, and oh yeah, unpack. Sunday night--fall into bed, think about weeping--nope, too tired.
Monday--hubby calls in the afternoon to tell me his district manager has decided to fast-track his last phase of training. Translation? We'll be moving again in 2 to 3 months. AAAAAAHHHHH!!!! Or maybe not until September. Where to you ask? Don't know, won't know until about 2 months from now.
Tuesday thru present--unpack while trying to think of this as a way to get better organized for the next move. Not workin' for me so far. Butter Pecan may help though. |

| Welcome! I'm extremely familiar with the moving/soon to be moving/displacement dance. I've got three kids ranging from 1 to almost 6, and I homeschool also. I actually moved to NY from Ohio almost a year ago. After years of waiting, we bought three acres here and are BUSY in the best possible way. I look forward to seeing you around, so to speak. |

Welcome Sheeri! Love your sense of humor - you really need it when you move. I totally understand the stress too. All your crafting will come in handy here - lots of forums to choose from that fit your interests. Good luck with the move. Take a deep breath and just keep saying "I'm a tree - I can bend" over and over again. It works! Everything will work out in the end.
Peace and love. Annie |

Welcome Sherri, I know how stressful it is to move with 4 kids under foot. I had 4 kids and we moved a total of 19 times. They are all grown now with kids of their own. My heart goes out to you. Just remember to try and fit in a little time for yourself, take a deep breath and relax, even if it is only for a couple of minutes locked in the bathroom, preferrably in a bubble bath. Take Care and hope to get to know you better!
