I've posted this over on my blog but I thought I'd post it here too. I've abandoned all chemical cleaners and I clean almost EVERYTHING in my house with a mixture of dish soap and water in a squirt bottle. This is excellent for cleaning everything from cabinets to toilets and it leaves no residue. It's a great way to save money and rid your home of disgusting, unhealthy chemical cleaners. I used to make baking soda pastes and used vinegar/water mixture but have found the dish soap mixture to work great. No, it's not organic and the dish soap is still made of chemicals but it's not that horrible, stinky stuff that takes your breath away and makes your contacts fall out because it's so strong!
Rachel, have you tried 7th Generation dish soap? I love it, and I bet it would be good for the all-purpose cleaning you do. And it's an environmentally friendly formula.
Rachel, thanx for the hint, I'll have to try that too..... I use 2 products that are enviro friendly.... The first is Mrs Meyer's counter top spray that I buy @ Whole Foods and the second one is a product I buy @ Trader Joe's called Cedarwood & Sage multi-purpose cleaner, I even use it on glass & mirrors. Both products are cruelty free & earth friendly. tata-4-now www.MRSMEYERS.COM
I use a mixture exactly like this one. I add some baking soda to it for cleaning my sink when it has a ring around it. I use baking soda for my toilet too.

I have used Dr. Bronner's tea tree soap or eucalyptus and mix it in a bottle with water. Use for cleaning countertops, floors and toilets. Works great and smells good too. Does a great job on the toilets.
