Hi to everyone: This is my 1st time here. My husband and I live on 20 acres of heaven behind Diamond Lake. I am an hour north of Spokane in Washington state. We are 1st timers at country life & have been learning loads day by day in our 2 yrs. here. We share our home with 4 dogs and 1 female lab puppy who is the BOSS! Also, our 12 cats roam in & out of our pioneer home. Parts of our home were the original log home 100 or so yrs. ago. We love the stars and peacefulness & the deer. I drive an hour to work in the big city of Spokane 3 days a week and my husband works fairly close to home. My grandson who is 4 1/2, comes to stay every 2 - 3 weeks for 4 days or so and it is really nice for him to enjoy the slow pace!We are learning that we need to keep our 1/2 mile of road to our house maintained with rock and that we need an old truck & snowplow for next winter; the new 4 wheeler-snowplow cannot do it all & I'm banned from using it due to the fact that I got my rt. thumb caught in the winch while plowing this past Feb. & almost cut my thumb off. I bought myself a ride in the firetruck, then the ambulance, and of course ; the ER, and then 7 weeks unplanned off from work. But, great news; I lost my thumbnail but have regained almost all movement of my thumb. Boy, what a wintertime adventure! Life is to be experienced with fun!

Victoria,
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome,
How wonderful for you and your hubby to have the pleasure of being the caretakers of a piece of American history,,,,the owners of a 100 year old home, how cool!
My DH & I will be moving up to the east side of Spokane,,,as soon as our home here in So. Calif. sales. Had 3 showings today, yea! so we are hopeful it will sell with in the next 4 weeks.
I have said it before, and am reminding all you dear MJF gals in & around that area that once I get settled in, I will be hosting a mega big tea party & all of you are invited.....so keep your fingers crossed that our home here sells soon, I want to be up there before the end of summer.

Welcome Victoria! Your place sounds devine. I know what you mean about learning about country life. My husband and I spent our first winter here in the Black Hills and learned about that snowplowing thing too - so we're getting a tractor with plow head in a few weeks. But isn't it fun?! We have 9-1/2 acres nine miles outside of town and love the peace and quiet and the friendly people we've met in town. You'll love it here and learn much. I know I have. Enjoy and welcome.

Hi Victoria,
It's nice to meet you. Newport is right next to Oldtown, ID, isn't it? I live down in Rathdrum ID. I've been to Newport only once or twice. I must get out more!!

Welcome from another Washingtonian - west side. Your adventure reminds me of mine - DH and I built a little house on our acreage in Montana and I was staying there by myself last summer. We didn't have our floor down yet and are planning to use floor boards we ripped out of an old hayloft. I decided to work on those boards to surprise DH and was taking nails out with one of those nail removers that you hook over the nail and slam down to pull it out. Well, I caught the web between my thumb and first finger in the slammer thing and punched a nice little hole, like a paper punch would do in it. Bled like crazy. Problem is, it is almost 80 miles to the nearest medical facility, the first 10 being dirt road. Consequently, my 75 year old neighbor became my EMT. Gotta do a little bit of everything in the country!!
