I have so many violets this year and want to do something with them. I've already made violet jelly and was just thinking of what else I could use them for. Anyone have any other ideas? Can linen water be made with violets? If it can, does anyone have a recipe?

Oh, how I LOVE violets! I'm envious! I don't know if it would work as linen water, but if I were so blessed as to have an abundance of violet flowers, I'd pack a small jar with blooms and pour over some vodka and see if the fragrance transfers to the alcohol. I don't know if it works, but I make my own herbal tinctures and oils and am always up to experimenting...

I am sure there is a way to make Violet linen water- I am just not sure how you would do so without staining the clothes. Also you could make a flavored vinegar with the violets! :)

cards and bookmarks would be pretty as would images of them framed under glass..you could make them look like little "fairy dresses" on handpainted little people.

Take some full blooms and snip off the stems up to about a half inch. Set them on a bakers rack upside down and using a tiny paint brush, brush them with beaten egg white; turn them over and do the other side. Dust with fine granulated sugar (not confectioner's sugar) and let dry. Voila, you have beautiful candied violets to decorate your summer teacakes.

You can store them in a tin between sheets of waxed paper. Make sure they're good and dry before you pack them. And you can make fine granulated sugar by buzzing some regular granulated sugar in the blender or food processor for a bit. Or you can buy it in some groceries and gourmet shops.

Violets, leaves and flowers are wonderful for making an herbal tincture. Violets have an affinity for the breast and the leaves have been used as poultices for lumpy breasts. There is much research into violets being used for cancer also.
