Our Great Dane(Maylee) was not handling the passing of Ady very well. She was very depressed and would stay in bed all day. She was even skipping meals. So we decided it was best to get her a new companion. Since bringing home our new dog she has returned to her happy self again! We picked out a Fawn Great Dane and named her Kiara! She has kept me very busy these past couple of days, but it makes me happy to see how happy she makes Maylee and the kids! Her first vet visit with us was yesterday and she is already 10.8 pounds. She's going to be a big girl like Maylee!

AHHH! You are killing me Krista! Danes are my heart breed and she is a beauty!
I may just drive to Utah to kiss her on the snoot!
Does she still have puppy breath?

She is so cute, Krista! I am so happy that Maylee is back to her old self! It is very hard losing one of the pack.

Thanks everyone. She really fits in with our family perfectly.

Lisa, Great Danes are mine and my husbands favorite too! I am not sure if I would ever go back to any other breed. Kiara is our third Dane. Our first one was a mantle and the best dog in the whole world. Maylee is a brindle and Kiara is a fawn. We are slowly working our way through the different colored Danes lol! I really want a harlequin, but this Scooby-Doo puppy stole our hearts first. Yes, she still has her puppy breath. I am one of the few who actually don't like it!

What a beauty! I want a harlequin one day. (I think it would be a perfect match for my cows LOL!) So happy to hear that Kiara has cheered Maylee.

Heather, I agree! They get just as big as a younger calf. It will fit right in. Plus all my calves have loved playing with Maylee. Even our big cows like to run the fence line with her!

My mother in law had a dane when she was young. She said it would sit with it's butt on the couch and watch TV. If you were talking it would look over at you, kind of snort a little, and look back at the TV as if to to say "be quiet, I'm watching this!" I bet it was a site to see!

Heather, I love it! Dogs are so funny and Danes have the best personality. My first Dane loved to sit on your lap if you sat on the couch. Her front feet were still on the ground but she would put her bum and back legs on your lap. Maylee likes to sleep on her back with the top half of her body twisted one way and the back side twisted the other way lol! I have never understood it.

Thanks for sharing such a gorgeous moment with us! It just goes to show how much animals so often rely on companionship too. So glad Maylee & Kiara have each other now, not to mention the love they bestow upon your family.

Cindy, I agree. I think animal feelings can often get sidelined by humans when companionship is very important for them too.
