Heather, yes that recipe is for tart cherries. That is the tree I have also. I did do mine in pints, as there is only two of us here. I will make small pies in my small cast iron pan.

Put up 7 pints mix-bean soup with smoked ham hock broth. All sealed.

Michelle, that's quite the combination you are drying. I have given up growing garlic so I don't have any garlic scapes and I miss it. Dried rose petals are good in hot tea.

The Bean Queen aka Sara reigns!
Michele, I have some garlic going but not sure how it will be after all the rain. The scapes will be nice dried.
I bought some smoky bbq bread and butter pickles at Aldi, and was thinking that I cloud replicate it with a tad of liquid smoke in the mix before canning. They have just a hint of smokiness and are quite good. Gotta get my cuke going first. LOL

Lisa, Liquid Smoke comes in handy for a lot of dishes. I like a sprinkle in my chicken salad. Gotta be careful though because it is powerful stuff. Let us know how it turns out in your bread & butter pickles which are my favorite pickle.

Denise, if they turn out good, they may not last to winter. Like I need an excuse to put up beans.

Today I put up 7 24oz Ball jars of green beans on the bottom & baby yellow potatoes on top. All sealed. Aldi had a good sale on both, so it was a good time to can.

There was enough left over to cook and have one serving. I enjoyed it for a late lunch.

Sara, I love green beans and potatoes, especially of there is a cottage butt added to the mix.

I got the electric canner out yesterday. Canned up 5 pints of leftover pulled pork. Thought I would give the recipe a try. I made the bbq sauce in the recipe, and packed in the meat. All sealed. We taste tested last night, and it was ok. The recipe uses molasses, and that might be the flavor I am not thrilled about. But an instant meal in a jar will be handy to have on the shelf.

Thanks Sara. Trying to keep myself busy here, waiting on weather to make hay. We have had so much rain this month, and have not cut any hay. It will take a while for the ground to dry out, so we can cut hay.

Yesterday my great niece gave me a box of tomatoes from her garden. I weighed them - 7 lbs Romas - 6 lbs of a large tomato. Today I will prep the tomatoes along with red onions & potatoes to make soup starter. Hope to can tomorrow after my new front door is put in.

Wow Sara! Your house is getting quite a few upgrades!
Between the soup starter you are canning, plus all of your beans, you are in for some hearty eating!
I like to can Romas peeled and whole. So good for Italian sauce later. I add spices/herbs later. I find it tastes so much fresher.
Michele, I know what you mean about molasses. I think the next time a recipe calls for it. I will go half molasses and half brown sugar.
So, our local IGA has a new owner, and he has been buying truckloads of different items and selling so much cheaper than anywhere else.
A few months ago, I got corned beef briskets for like $2 EACH. Also, he has consistently had boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.49 to $1.99 lb.
Well, we are getting 1/4 side beef in Sept and my freezers are FULL.
I took out the corned beef and some of the chicken breast. I cut as much of the fat off of the corned beef that I could, chopped into chunks and added the spice packet. I raw packed with no liquid. I got 10 pints. Also 4 pints chicken breast and one-pint white northern beans to fill the canner.
Put a bit of a dent in the freezer. I need to stop buying the chicken breast, but I can't resist that price!

Lisa, you sound like my sister, she never met a sale she could resist.

Great job on canning the corned beef, chicken breast, and beans.

The soup starter never happened. I peeled the tomatoes and potatoes but with the workers being in my home for three days I couldn't can. When I can I need to stay focused and couldn't with all the noise going on around me. The tomatoes went to my sister, and I made potato soup out of the cut-up potatoes and red onions.

BTW along with the new front door I now have a taller commode in the hall bath with new flooring; also new flooring in my bathroom. Still wish I could have put up the soup starter.

That's OK Sara! I have a feeling that there are many more tomatoes coming your way this summer!
Glad your house is getting a refresh! That is so nice

Michele - I hope you've finally dried out enough to get your hay made!

My garden is just now starting to yield some veggies. So far I've just been eating them :) The zucchini are going bonkers - what do you guys do with them?
