does anyone know how to successfully plant tulip bulbs from a potted plant received at christmas? i live in the houston texas area.

thanks for the reply. we don't get much cold here in the winter, but the summers are looooonnnnng hot and humid. don't see alot of tulips growing in yards but i am gonna try it anyway. i could probably get away with planting them now and hope by spring of next year.

While I don't know anything about Texas planting schedules, I do know that bulb planting is a fall thing. You can plant the bulb outside now and in the spring you may get foliage and no flower because it probably was a forced bulb. When the foliage has died down you could dig it up and summer it over in a cool place bedded in sawdust and plant it in the fall. It needs at least 8 weeks of cold to bloom again which is why they are planted in the fall. What type of weather do you have in the winter? Do tulips normally grow there in the Spring? Give it a try.
