Posted - Dec 05 2014 : 6:51:20 PM I've officially given up the Swiffer wet cloths for mopping my floors. While they were convenient, they were not a good choice for my family. The Going Green project encouraged me to find an alternative and I'm so glad I have. Now I use the microfiber mop head that flylady.net sells. I keep the microfiber cloths in a cleaning solution and they are easy to pull out, snap on and use. Plus, I can wash and reuse so no more waste from the single use cloths. http://estleschippfarm.blogspot.com/2014/12/farmgirl-friday-maryjanesfarm-going.html
Thank you MJF for encouraging me to clean my home with things I can pronounce!

Posted - Nov 29 2015 : 11:56:55 AM I love this floor cleaner mixture! I will work perfect with the mop that I use. Thank you for sharing. Since its Christmas time it would be nice to add some Christmas Essential Oil smells.

Posted - Dec 15 2014 : 1:49:05 PM Okay, thanks! I'll give it a try after Christmas.... With all the foot traffic before then I don't want to create extra work by having to scrub the floors more than I need too ;) haha

Posted - Dec 08 2014 : 11:36:31 AM Hi Krystle,
I don't have hardwood floors *yet* but in my reading it looks like a good cleaner for wood would be 1 gallon of water with 1 tablespoon castile soap, 1/8 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup brewed tea. Use the mopping cloth only slightly damp. You can add the essential oils too for fragrance.
Test in a small spot to be sure it works well. Let me know what you think!

Posted - Dec 05 2014 : 8:15:02 PM Congrats! Your idea of keeping several soaking in a container and ready to go is great....very efficient.
Keep going and share more ideas with us.

Posted - Dec 05 2014 : 7:40:50 PM Congratulations on going green. I have a swiffer and I once met a woman who made pads for them from alpaca wool that you could wash--I'd love to get some but I haven't seen her since and I lost her contact information. I keep hoping I'll run across her again. I do buy reusable paper towels for a dollar for a pack of six--they can be used up to thirty or forty times before I have to throw them away. And you can cut them to whatever size you want. I still use regular paper towels for soaking up grease (it's not a good idea to use rags to soak up grease--if you wash them, they can cause a fire in the dryer if there's still grease on them). I use white vinegar for lots of things. And baking soda. Just used it tonight to clean a skillet that had burned on crud. I get the largest box I can find. I'll have to check out Flylady's website.
