I saw the thread about the homemade dishwasher detergent cubes, but we are on a septic tank system and aren't to use powders. Does anyone have a liquid detergent recipe that actually works?

I just found this post while adding one of my own. Anyone have an update on the recipe, how it is working, if you are still using it, any changes made?

I'll make up a batch and see how it goes. I tried a very similar castile based recipe before and it left a film on the dishes that was very hard to get off, even with a vinegar rinse.

I am not sure. We have well water and a conditioner for the house. I think that it is because of the iron in our water. I hope someone else who has tried it can tell you.

I just made this recipe up and tried it and was so happy with the great job it did on the dishes. I went ahead and doubled the batch twice since I had enough liquid castile to do it. And using just two tblsp works well.thanks for finding and sharing this krissy

Well, I did some searching and came upon this recipe:
Automatic dishwasher detergent
1/2 cup liquid Castile soap
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
3 drops tea tree extract (or oil)
1/4 cup white vinegar
Store in squeeze bottle. Use 2 tablespoons per wash in a standard size dishwasher.
Do not substitute conventional liquid soap for the Castile unless it is a 'low sudsing' soap. Regular soaps will produce too many suds and overflow the dishwasher.
