Posted - Feb 16 2013 : 09:24:53 AM Does anyone have suggestions on how I can clean some spotty mildew from the inside lining of my drapes? They are dry clean only, but the lining fabric is a cotton blend. I tried a bakingsoda and water paste, but that only seemed to make a water stain on the fabric. Any help would be great! Thanks! |

Posted - Feb 17 2013 : 9:57:31 PM Oxyclean should work if your fabric is color-safe. We use oxyclean to clean algae and mildew off siding, bricks and concrete outdoors here in the "Evergreen" state so I know it would cut the mildew stains. You could spot treat the stains first and then wash with detergent on the handwash cycle as Andee describes above. Good luck!

Posted - Feb 17 2013 : 10:13:45 AM Thanks for the suggestions, ladies. :) I bought a box of Dryell at the grocery store yesterday. I think I might try that, and then the water and vinegar. I have used a water and Tea Tree oil mix in a spray bottle for grout (that stuff worked great!), but I don't want to try that on fabric... |

Posted - Feb 17 2013 : 07:02:10 AM Does your washing machine have a hand wash cycle? That's what I use for all my upholstery and curtains. I know it says not to, but I've done it for years and have never had a problem. I use just a tiny bit of detergent and run it on the hand wash cycle. Then I transfer to dryer and use the lowest setting for just 10 minutes, to get some of the water out, then hang to dry.
I know it goes against everything the labels say, but I've never had a problem. I wish I could promise the same for you, but it's what I do.
