Hi girls, I posted this but its at the end & I thought it was important enough to put it here. I found out through an older friend, the best (I think) product for septic tanks is VINEGAR, its natural, it doesnt pollute, its cheap and it actually helps the tanks because it acts the same way it does in our bodies for our digestive system. It may sound crazy but I've been doing it all summer & have had NO problems at all. No bad smells, no leaks, no clogs, no problems. I wasted so much money using all kinds of things. I agree 7 generation has great products but they can get expensive. Just a thought.

Thanks for that very useful tip, Michele. I haven't had a septic system very long at my farmhouse and your tip will be used this weekend!

Probably everybody already knows this about drain cleaners, but just in case... I once roomed with the daughter of a plumber, and our old house had the worse possible drains--perpetual clogs. This man told us NEVER to use the drain cleaners on the market (like draino), that they actually make the pipes worse over time. Also, along with soap clogging up the tank, our "Pumper Outer" said that grease is #1. I always wipe oily pans and even plates (olive oil solidifies when cold) before they go into the sink. Vinegar sounds like a very logical choice for the drains. It and hot water together would clear all the grease out.

There is a Redeemer.

I don't know that I have an outside septic pipe... is that something one should know that she has?

I just pour it right down the drain and outside down the disgusting septic pipe. You can dilute it but I havent. I pour every other wk. Not too much about 1/2 a small bottle.

Has anybody tried vinegar in the dishwasher? I use it on my counters, stoves, sinks, toilet...etc but I still use soap for the dishes as I haven't found any alternatives. I wonder what would happen if I put my ionizing laundry balls in the dishwasher...

So just pour vinegar down the drain?

The fellow who cleaned our septic tank told me that soap was the worst clogger of the tanks. He said do not use tide and do not use too much of any soap. Also if you have a garbage disposal try not to use it too often. Not good for the ole tank. I have never used any extra product in the tank and yhe sucker-upper man said The tank was excellent.

I'm definitely going to try it. We have a "good, old-fashioned" (ha ha) cesspool that sometimes needs all the help it can get! Thanks!!!

XOXO, Libbie

When I was in college I worked summers at a local restaurant, sometimes as a waitress, sometimes in the kitchen, and the manager there had us wiping down counters and shelves with vinegar and water mixed whenever we had a few spare moments. Seems it is a pretty good disinfectant and also cuts grease to get rid of dirt.
