Help! about every 2 or 3 washes my machine spews out iron from our water, or pipes carrying the water I don't know. It happened lots last summer was good all winter and now this summer is bad again. Lots of clothes are permenantly stained as I have found no cleaners that can remove the ugly orange patches. Anyone have any suggestions for removing the stains, but even better fixing the cause? Thanks,
Shannon

Thanks for all your ideas ladies. I've used the iron out and had no luck with it on the clothes. It's great for our toilet tank and bowl though. I'm going to try the lemon juice on some of the clothes. I've never seen Wink, but will look for it

I think Renee is right on the name, Wink, not Wisk. It gets the gray out of whites, too.

there are some products out there called Iron Out (powder) and White Brite (powder). they need to be used on whites, though. it will fade colored stuff. my grandma used the lemon juice and shunshine technique and gave it to me as a "tip" in a bridal shower card before i got married. we have hard water (rusty) too. i use oxygen cleanser with each load and that helps the yellowing. i think there is also a product out there called Wink too, but i haven't used it. one thing that really helped us was putting a filter on our line just after the pressure tank. we got it at lowes and it helped alot as well

There's a product called Wisk, sold here at hardware stores and Walmart. It works great.

I was at ACE hardware a few days ago and I forgot which product it was, but in their cleaing aisle they had something for getting the iron out of clothes. Maybe if the lemon doesn't work (I hope it does!) your hardware store might have something too?

Shannon, Try lemon juice and hang in the sun to dry. I collect old vintage linens and have had great luck with that application. Good luck!
