We finished up my new clothesline this last weekend. It turned out exactly how I imagined it would look. I can't wait to hang my sheets out on the line. I still need to mow a little buffer zone around it.

Sure looks sturdy! You will get many years of fresh dried sheets. Reminds me of my early married years when I couldn't wait for dryer, now I want a clothesline. Jan, on a WV mountain

People who stop by to visit or delivery men always ask, "Is that what I think it is?" It is in full view of the driveway when you approach the house, so it was kind of important to make it look somewhat aesthetically pleasing...something like practical yard art.
Our once-a-year mowing is finally done, and I'm keeping a little space around it mowed short, but the big blue stem and wild flowers will all grow up tall around it again in no time.

That is sooo cool. I love old telephone stuff anyway. My grandfather started the phone company in this area way back when and I have some pretty cool old telephone stuff. Not a lot though. I would love to make a clothes line like that. I trail ride a lot and sometimes I find those old insulators out in the woods. Love them! Thanks for sharing it with us Paula!

So cool! I will be showing my husband soon. Ours works well but not nearly as impressive as yours. I really love it.

Love it! I had a clothes line but the tree it was attached to on the far end fell over one day and I haven't had a clothes line put back up yet. I miss mine and the weather has been perfect for hanging clothes out. My other problem is I can't carry a clothes basket yet. I had back surgery a few months back. I love your line. It is fabulous!

Audrey, that is so cool! Let me know if you need any specifics on materials and measurements. Since I'm only 5 foot tall, the "telegraph lines" were made a bit lower to the ground than most folks would manage. Nothing at our place is level, so the further away post is actually about a foot taller than the one closer, in order for it to appear somewhat level. That required some of my husband's mysterious engineering magic and plumb lines. The cross pieces are 6 foot long 4 X 4's, and the lines are 1 foot apart from each other on each side of the post. I think I measured about 5 inches from either side of the the outer edge of the middle post to drill the first hole for the lag screw that the insulator and clothesline are attached to. Then every lag screw was 1 foot from the last one. The posts are 12 ft 4 X 6's that were cut so that they were 1 ft above the cross piece. I dug the holes 2 ft deep and we filled quick-crete in around the posts, just like fenceposts.

I've been after DH to make me a clothes line for some time now. I just showed him the picture of yours and he said he'd be happy to make me one if he could make one that looked like that! High praise indeed!

I got those insulators for less than a dollar each from Etsy. I intentionally ordered a mix of sizes and colors to add interest. This is not my idea originally. In fact, I got the idea from an old, old thread on this forum about clotheslines!!
Here is a photo of it in action. (Yes I still need to mow the prairie grass around it.)

Insulators! Thanks, Sylvia.

My husband has a little collection of them...maybe I could talk him into using them for a project like this. So cool.

Love it! I want to have a clothesline at the house we're moving to in Indiana, but seeing as there is basically 13 acres of hills I'm not sure if it's going to happen.

I got to try it out yesterday. It was great! I should have taken some photos, but I was a little distracted by other things yesterday, and was sort of just going through the motions. By the time I got one load washed the load I had hung on the lines was already dry with the wind we had. We slept on outdoor fresh dried sheets last night...pretty nice!
