I currently have a Miele cannister vacuum that I paid entirely too much money for and have never loved--tolerated, yes, but I don't feel it does the job that I was promised. Over the years, the company has changed the bags 2 times (smaller, "more efficient" the box says), and now 4 bags costs $24.00! With 4 hairy dogs, we go through bags a LOT.
I've read some good reviews on varying Shark vacuums, the canister type, and wonder if any of you can offer your opinion?
We have no more carpet in the house, just hardwood, but I'm a sucker for attachments. QVC has some nice package offers with their Sharks (and I'm sure I don't need all the bells and whistles) but anything is better than what I currently use!

i've always used canister vacuums. then our 400.00 kenmore stopped working after a couple of years. i was not happy! i watched an infomercial, which i normally dont do, and was sold on the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum. Let me say, i NEVER liked uprights. The vacuum was 200.00, and i LOVE it! there are no bags and it is very powerful. It also came with a free steam mop and this steam mop gets the floors so clean, they become slippery.
I highly recommend the Shark Navigator Lift-Away.

we uae a filter queen here. she can suck the ground up through the floor i have had it forever. my first i sold years ago to pay the rent. the one i have now i got from craigs. it was a long time ago. they last forever. 3 good filters in it too. JMO happy days sherrye

I think I got the same deal that Lisa got from QVC. I actually love the small cannister so much. The upright is so light - less than 8 pounds. A huge difference from our last one. The vaccum is easy to fix yourself and the yearly check up is great. Good luck.

I have the Shark Professional. It works terrific. I am very pleased. It is amazing how much dirt it sucks up.

Several years ago when I was overwhelmed by having 4 teenagers in the house (3 of them moved in with one day notice - stepkids...), going through 8 gallons of milk a week, and trying to keep the house clean with a broom alone, my mother bought me a Kenmore cannister vacuum. I have to say I have been really happy with it - turns out she bought the "Rolls Royce model" but it has stood up to dog hair, cat hair, general dirt, the afore-mentioned 4 teenagers and a carpenter husband quite well. That's my only vacuum experience - it's a little daunting to think about making that big of a purchase so good luck Jonni!

This is all great information, girls. I'm taking everything under advisement. I've always been partial to the canisters because of the attachments, I guess, but as I mentioned, my "european expensive fancy schmancy vacuum" just doesn't do the trick. Whenever I go to buy bags, the guy always asks me how I like it and I tell him, "I don't, actually." and then he tries to sell me an upgrade or tell me it needs service.
I'm making a "pro's and con's" list because I don't want to make another bad decision on a vacuum. I use the thing way too much to have issues!!

Jonni-IMO Eureka canister vac is a more reliable choice. I've never seen one fail to perform even with the demands of the pet hair and rough handling, whereas I have seen the Sharks malfunction as to suction. I think Eureka has a better reputation and recently I found a mini (like a shark) at Walmart here in Orlando for 20$...so now I have a little tiny shark and an almost identical little eureka.
These work awesome on hardwood, ceramic and for the pet hair. The bags are 3 for 5$.

I haven't used one of their vacuums, but I have a Shark steamer, and it does a marvelous job. I'd be game to try their vacuum, just based off the performance of my steamer. I have a Dyson, tho... and if you want a good vacuum, that's a perfect solution for pet hair. I empty the canister about weekly...with three cats...so you know it's getting all the hair, lol.

I have had bad luck with Shark vacuums. Fortunately I had purchased 4 of them from Bed, Bath & Beyond. They took them back without any problems. Basically they didn't hold up or do the job, I wound up with a Dyson. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is a awkward design and not easy to work with.
Good luck finding what works best for you.

My parents just bought a Shark vacuum today. They got it at Target. It was on sale, so maybe check out Target.

We had a shark for a few years and we were REALLY hard on it. It was great while it lasted. We actually ended up having to a get a different vaccum only because a clip broke off of the Shark that made the canister not stay where it was supposed to anymore. We loved the Shark because it really sucked up a lot (no carpet, but we had a lot of animals indoors so it was constantly in use)and it was light to carry around. Now we have a Eureka which sucks stuff up really well, but MAN is it heavy to carry up and down the stairs. :( Good luck on your search!

I LOVE my Oreck (made in the USA) & QVC has them on often. The upright is VERY light, good suction, very long cord, & can go from carpet to hard floors with no adjustment.
The bags are reasonable; I think I bought a package 2 yrs ago & still have plenty (of course that may be due to me not using it enough).
They do not have any attachments for the main unit, but many times they have deals that add the little handheld with it, which has all of the extras.
Actually, we have a little bagless Dirt Devil cannister I use for the nooks & crannies, but Jim will use the Oreck only, & is able to fit the upright into most places.
They have a 3 yr warranty (at least when I got mine) & that gives you 3 tune ups. There is an Oreck dealer by the Kenwood mall near Half Priced books.
I had a Dyson & hated it. It was heavy, clunky, hard to maneuver & then broke. I cussed every time I used it. The Shark kind of reminds me of the Dyson.
I have also gone through several other vacs, but we have had our Oreck for 6 yrs & I will not use anything else.
I know that I bought mine directly from Oreck & they paid the shipping (both ways if you choose to return) & had a 12 mo same as cash.
Mine came with the handheld & an iron.
I'm sure there are plenty of other deals out there.
