After much trial and error, I came up with a very easy (for me) liquid laundry soap. The recipe is at my blog:

I've used Fels Naptha and Zote in my laundry detergent. Both work very well. I have been making my own laundry detergent for about 4 years, and I'll never go back to buying it at the store. I've just switched to making my own dishwasher detergent. Love it all!

On youtube there are a lot of soap recipes--
I thought this one looked interesting:

Bev, I've been making my own liquid laundry detergent for about 3 years now. I love it! I use Zote too. It's hard to find around here, but I put my detergent in a 5 gallon bucket.

I have used the liquid laundry soap for about three years now. However, my recipe calls for 1 bar Fels Naptha, 1 cup washing soda, 1/2 cup Borax. Follow the same instructions as above, except use a clean 5 gallon bucket with a tight fitting lid to store your soap. I always fill up an old laundry detergent bottle & keep it above the washer so I don't have to dip into the bucket everyday. Dirt cheap and works great! I think the thing I like best is that I'm no longer making 911 trips to the store for detergent.
