Do you know where to expose of fire extinguishers

I checked mine today, as it was a self reminder. We are having the wood burning stove chimney cleaned professionally today and I double checked my extinguishers as well. One says to dispose of when needle is pointing to red, but the other looks like it can be recharged.

LOngmont! I went to beauty school there in 1982 and graduated from Erie in 1980! It's been 20 years since I have been to Co. but I have heard it really grew in that area. My hubby likes the brass ext. best but silver looks nice also. Good luck on your hunt.

Lea, I never thought of making a lamp out of the old chrome water extinguisher. Its a perfect gift for a dear freind of mine. I'll be on the look out for one now.

My husband has bought the old time water type ones at yard sales and made cool lamps out of them.

Thanks for all your tips. I had no idea about pounding on them to keep it loose either. Great info!

My husband services fire extinguishers. If the fire extinguisher has a plastic head, it probably isn't worth recharging. If it has a metal head it can probably be recharged. Where I live, you can dispose of your fire extinguisher at the solid waste transfer station (or what I call the dump). It may be that the person who services your other fire extinguisher will take it, too. Sometimes they can use the powder out of it. Also, don't forget to pound on the bottom of your fire extinguisher with a rubber mallet once in a while to keep the powder loose.

Could you take them to your local fire department? They'll be able to give you the information you need.
