Hello Ladies!!
I thought I would share with y'all my Laundry soap recipe. I think making it saves on money and better then that stuff at the store. I also love to use stuff that I make; it really makes me happy. Thanks SusanScarlet...That seems like such a nice SMALL amount for the HE washers!
Just a Brooklyn, NY gal trying to figure out this country thing after 12+ years in the woods of NE PA! Wife of my HS sweetie going on 23 years and mom to the amazing four ages 19(g), 17(s), 14(s), 13(s)!

I've used homemade detergent in my HE washer for several years now without a problem. I use 1 rounded tablespoon for each load. If really dirty, I used two tablespoons. It works for HE washers because it's low sudsing. Regarding why use baking soda, I think it softens the water. |

Well a stick blender is like a little blender on a stick. They work really well, you can find them at Wal-Mart. You will find them in the kitchen part where the mixer's and blenders are. I don't know what to do about the rusty water, but to replace the pips.

Ok I'll show my dumbness what is a stick blender My Amish friend made some detergent for me but it would not mix up for me in my washer I had white globs on everything I want something that will work in really hard rusty water Both of our wells are like that I even have a water softer but my washing is still not a pretty white Any help would be great Sandra 2650 |

I use 1/4 of a cup of my homemade detergent in my HE washer. My recipe is just washing soda, borax, and castile soap (OR fels) Celeste, why the baking soda? What does that do?

Celeste thank you for your recipe also! I like getting new recipes all the time. I was wondering why Borax is not safe any more? My box that mine comes in says that it is all natual.

I've used this recipe for a number of years and it works great. My version is a box of borax, a box of wash soda, 3 cups of baking soda, 3 bars of Fels Naptha soap, and a cup and a half of oxiclean. I mix it all up just like Yesterdayfarm and use it in the same proportions. Recently it's come to my attention that borax is not as as safe as once thought, and Fels naptha has changed it's formulation over the years to contain some unsafe elements. So, recently, I've tried this recipe at the Craft Leftovers blog www.craftleftovers.com/blog/archives/7147 I substituted baking soda for the Borax in the recipe and I added a cup of Oxiclean which turned the whole mess into a foaming, overflowing mess----but when it finally calmed down, I whipped it up with a stick blender and it turned into a beautiful fluff which has seems to be doing a fairly good job and uses just a fraction of the ingredients of dry so it's much more economical. Just an alternative to consider.

I recently started making the powder version of laundry detergent. My 'recipe' is pretty similar to yours. Will be trying it out as soon.

I do a recipe very similar to yours, but make the liquid version. But I LOVE the idea of using the stick blender! The recipe we made is rather chunky and this would blend it very nicely.
