I am a big believer in cleaning with baking soda and white vinegar (and the two together-wow!). Soooo...I discovered another use for baking soda- When I have a particularly icky stainless steel pan or pot after cooking, I hand wash them with a few drops of dish soap and a sprinkle of baking soda. They come out sparkling every time!

Great tips ladies. Thanks for sharing them. Maybe I can get my 30 year old Revere ware pots to look like new again!

I know this is a thread about pots and pans, but since we're talking about lemons and baking soda I wanted to share that I use lemons and baking soda to clean my garbage disposal. The baking soda and lemon rinds clean the blades, and the lemon makes it smell much, much better.

Love baking soda, and I'm gonna have to try the lemon and salt. Lemon is like the all around multitasking perfect fruit isn't it?!

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

not weird at all Bev. The acid in the tomato is what cleans it up!

For copper - and I know this sounds weird - but cover the area with ketchup, let sit, and rinse off.

works every time!

Another solution that isn't so eco-friendly is over cleaner. After years of abuse, my stainless pots looked like something from the local diner. So, I sprayed them down, stuck them in a plastic garbage sack, and laid them on my patio in the sun. The heat and bag made the cleaner really work. After about an hours, I donned long-sleeves and rubber gloves, and was able to just wipe the cooked-on ickiness away. It also works on my cast-iron burner grates. I don't recommend this as a course for regular cleaning - but it may be a last-ditch effort to save or revive your cookware. It looks brand-new - even after nearly a year of cooking on them. Remember, this is only for stainless steel or iron grates. I wouldn't use it on my iron cookware, it will discolor anything aluminum, and who knows what it will do to copper. Use with caution!

Every time I cook something with tomatoes (spaghetti sauce, sauteed veggies with tomatoes, etc....the pan comes out shining afterwards. Cook with tomatoes and clean your pans all at once! :)

I was wondering what can shine up the copper on the bottom of my pans. I'm gonna try the lemon and salt. Thanks for the idea.

I scrub mine (copper bottom stainless steel) with a half of a lemon dipped in salt..works great and shines up the copper as well. Baking soda is so good for so many things as well, isn't it?
