I know there was a thread on these. Well I have had one for, yep, just over a year. We just redid all of our flooring due to a plumbing leak, & I pulled the Shark out to do my new floors.
One puff of steam & DEAD. I looked up my order on QVC, and it was ordered 1/24/10, with a 1 yr warranty of course. Even more discouraging is that they are selling it for $40 now, & there are multiple reviews that had the same thing happen, conking out after just over a year.
I loved the thing at 1st, but now am just disgusted.
Maybe I will try the Haan
So buyer beware I guess...

I do have a Haan handheld steamer and love that too.

Have you tried to put vinegar in it to unclog the steamer? Sometimes this helps, especially if you have mineral deposits that build up over time from tap water (which is what I use too) this is what Monster recommends when it stops letting steam out :)

Megan,

Which Monster model do you have? I think I may buy the Monster model.

I mainly use vinegar and not water. The thing is, mine has plenty coming out! lol too much! It just comes out in a big old puddle streaming out, instead of steaming out! lol haha

I am on my second Steam Shark. I loved the first one so much and was so upset when it quit working, I just went and bought another. I am glad to see I am not the only one with this issue. I thought I broke it somehow, lol.

Oh no! I was just reading the "to swift or not to swift" thread and decided that a shark was just what I needed!

I paid 240 dollars for my steam mop at a home show two years ago. I don't watch much tv, so it was all new to me at the home show and I didn't know they had anything cheaper. Till I bought it and then my mom told me about the shark on tv. Oh well.......any way, mine died a few months ago as well! I talked to the home show people this year and they wouldn't do anything for me. I think I will take it apart and check the hoses. However, I was wondering what is a good brand? I had been thinking about the shark...but not if it will die too.

Good to know Annette, but I fear my problem will not be the same, since (shamefully bows head), mine was not in use near that much
We had our house torn apart for several months due to a plumbing leak, & uneven concrete is not condusive to steam cleaning.
I will check it out this weekend.
Thanks!

Lisa, mine is in almost daily use. We bought ours on April 19th of 2010, and last week mine died!! I took it apart. The little heating and pressure element was still good, the hoses had just become brittle, and cracked. I sent my DH to the hardware store, and less than $10. later, I have a new mop. Lots of little screws involved with the covers, but the hoses themselves are held on with simple pinch clamps. I was so upset when it broke, and thrilled to have it working again.

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

I agree with Pamela, I am love the steam mop, but my Shark is awkward to use. It is too wide to fit around the tight corners, especially in the bathroom. When mine finally dies, I will looking for something better constructed too.

I've had my Shark for about a year and so far, no issues. I use a mix of distilled and tap water. I agree, I *love* steam mops, but the Shark construction (and I have the higher-end model) isn't the greatest. When mine bites the dust, I'll probably buy something a littler nicer.

Lisa- when I bought my Shark Steam mop the instructions said not to use tap water but to only use distilled water. I still use tap water but I know that eventually that will catch up with me. Even soft water does have some minerals in it so over time I could imagine it would gunk up the heating element. However they do seem to be a bit on the cheaper side of manufacturing so it also doesn't surprise me that it might conk out after only one year. That is super frustrating though. My next steam mop will be a higher grade one, but the Shark was definitly a good "test run" so to speak. I learned I love them!

Lisa, Did you buy your Shark at Bed, Bath & Beyond? They are superb with returns and if you have the receipt, they will take it back without a problem.

I bought my Shark vacuum/steamer a few months ago and so far, so good. I was so impressed with it that I bought the portable attachment cleaner set up too. I'll mark my calendar to see if they both make it past the one year mark. Hopefully they will keep working for me.

Good luck finding something new that will last!

Alee...Tap water per instructions, & we do not have hard water. Our water is very nice here, spring fed & quite soft.
I just saw that Amazon has pulled this & is only selling from outside vendors..
Janice... I guess Dave has won this round, but Burlington is coming up & he knows all too well what can happen when he brings his truck to that location...

Were you putting tap water or distilled water in the tank?

Ewww! So sorry, Lisa. I was thinking of buying one. But David just keeps saying no. Eww, again. Guess that makes him right! Hate it when that happens! ;(
