Ugh!! My garbage disposal backed up into my dishwasher. So gross!!! I fixed it, but because of the *yuck* all over in there going through the heat dry cycle, it cooked onto the sides and door! I've scrubbed and scrubbed. I got all the solid stuff out, but there are stains everywhere! I can't stand it. It may be clean, but it LOOKS filthy. I am going crazy unloading my clean dishes from a dirty looking dishwasher. It's really messing with my head. Any ideas on how to get the stains out? Normally I use my coffee grounds in the garden, but that day it was so cold, I didn't want to go outside, so I dropped them in the disposal. So, now there are tea colored poka-dots everywhere I look!

They're all gone. Not a spot left. They faded a lot with the bleach, but the kicker was the lemonade Kool-Aid. Who knew? Yay, no more spots. I was at the point of pulling out the dishwasher, and putting it on the porch, so the nasty spots greater him at the door, instead of me! Oh happy happy day. I started the empty dishwasher last night, and awoke to a clean, white dishwasher!
*Sharon,
I am completely agree with you 100% about the detergent with phospates. If I grab a low end detergent, my dishes are always spotty or filmy. I wanted to try to make my own dishwashing liquid, but, all my dishes are clear glass, and if there is anything left, water spots, they look dirty. Yuck. I love Cascade, and another great one is made by Amway. My daddy sells it, I can't remember what its called, but it even gets the old buildup off the glass.
Well, thanks girls, I'm going to go happily wash my dishes now, in my white washer.

Makes since. I think for $.10 I can't go wrong, right?

I think it's the citric acid in the lemon koolaid that might work. I also think that's what's in the Lemishine.

Annette,

Does your dish-washing detergent have Phosphates? I recently learned that in our area the detergents are now phosphate-free and leaving our dishes, etc. with a film and residue. We just purchased some Cascade online that has phosphates and it has gotten everything super clean as well as the inside of the DW. I have never seen it so clean :)

The kool-aid is sure a different idea! I tried the magic eraser, nope :(
I'm going to run an empty load of bleach next. I wonder if the Kool-aid lemonade works? So curious....

I have heard from several sources that if you place a pack of Kool-Aid lemonade (only the lemonade flavor works) in the detergent dispenser and run it while empty it will clear the stains.

I've wondered that myself Sherry because the ingredients are not listed on the package that I could find.

I'd try the Mr. Clean sponge, too. Also, there's a product named LemiShine that's sold to remove hard water and other stains. It cleans great. Maybe fill both cups with that and run the dishwasher on it's longest, hotest cycle. Good luck and let us know what works.

What about a paste made from a little bit of water and powdered oxyclean? I have used this to get coffee stains off of our formica countertop when DH spills and doesn't clean up.

If your dishwasher soap has bleach in it that should take care of it. It did for mine, I had tea stains in there on the door and it drove me crazy so I bought a bottle of the good value brand from Walmart. It has bleach in it and took care of the stains.

Another thing you could do is run a small amount of bleach through the wash. Also most dishwasher soaps contain bleach so you might see the stains disappear over time even without assitance. I really like Highlandviewpantry's suggestion though. Those Magic Erasers are awesome! :)

I think a Mr. Clean sponge might help remove the stains.
