Hi,
I am converting our meals :), and buying more bulk. My husband was able to bring home several food grade pails with sealing lids for me so I can story my bulks.
Unfortunately, they had Teriyaki (or something similar) sauce in them, and I cannot get rid of the smell.
I washed them out hot with dishsoap, then soaked them in hot water with baking soda. I tried one with white vinegar and soaking, that does not work either :(. I can't put flour or oats in there, they will taste horrible....
Any advise?

You could also try the crumpled newspaper trick - works for getting the smell out of pickle jars. Not how it would work with plastic, though.

I keep going outside and "sniffing". I saw some buckets at Home Depot today for $3...tempting...except they are not food grade.
Today, I am a bit calmer about the stinky situation, and know that it should be "advice"..lol..:).
You post gives me hope that time will take care of business.

I got some buckets that held fragrance for a candle company. You can only imagine how gross those were. I did what you did, and then let them sit in the sun...days on end. They finally lost the smell. I'd hose em with the vinegar and let them sit in the sun.
