That I filled a whole storage unit with junk and still have too many books and too much clothing and other various junk...bah! I'm going to spend the entire next year contemplating and acting on the de-cluttering/simplifying thing. So...I'm going to just have a messy house for Christmas

I can't remember where I saw this tip but put a ribbon or rubberband around each coat hanger. When you wear something snip it off. After three months, donate anything with a rubberband or ribbon. Of course you would only want to do one season at a time.

I have found that when I switch my clothes for the season, just get rid of anything I did not wear. No regrets so far, either. And not such a daunting job when it happens every six months . . .

Annika- I found something that is helping with the clothing mess at my house. I figure that I can have 2-3 dressy outfits that I will wear for special occasions and the rest if I don't wear it in two weeks- I don't wear it at all. So during the season I am in, if I don't wear it in two weeks or if it isn't one of my dressy outfits, I donate it. I haven't regretted anything yet. I also got rid of everything that is too small for me to wear since if/when I lose the weight I will deserve to go get a few new things (or new to me at least!) That really helped and I wasn't re-washing clothes all the time so it saved on water and soap!

Just a thought. I hope you are able to reduce to where you want it to be- I can't imagine renting a storage shed is cheap. I am definitly in the reduce and simplify mode myself. Each time I clean I feel like I get more and more ruthless about it too! LOL
