Posted - Oct 08 2010 : 03:33:26 AM any "natural" way??? i don't want to set traps as i don't want to hurt my own fingers...and i have to be careful of poisons due to a very nosy small indoor dog -also parrots....
i understand WHY they come in ( i live in the midst of woods and fields in northern michigan for pete's sake!!!) and don't really mind that part- just don't care to house and feed them all winter!!!
suggestions??? thanx!

Posted - Oct 19 2010 : 07:45:34 AM I have been leaving peppermint packets around, found them in the garden center where I worked. They are called Mouse magic. I just every a little peppermint oil to them to hopefully increase the use of them. I leave them in the winter on the beds at the farm and by the vents in the floor if any of the field mice think they need to come in to get warm. I have been doing this for about 2 years and so far they have worked other then when the grandkids go up and leave their crumbs on the floor and the grownups do not vacuum after them. Jill Lillian |

Posted - Oct 18 2010 : 09:57:38 AM Oh my goodness! If there any thing I hate is mice and rats. In our old house in the city the last year we lived there ; it was the worse Son and hubby said I was seeing things. Well, I know what dang mice look like. We sit all kinds of traps , etc, there at last they wouldn't go to them I don't know if they were smart and figured them out or what. But,I counted 5 in my room I would see them; then they would run. Missing all the traps. Hubby wouldn't allow a cat or dog Son ,and hubby said I was seeing things the one thing I can think of is the house is really old and one of the shingles blew loose in a really bad storm. Hubby never got around to fixing it. I heard them in the walls too. Hubby sleeps like a log ;so he couldn't hear them. I am so thankful for a new home that is only one year old well we have been living here one year. House is maybe 2 years. old Hubby made sure when he built the house that there was a good sound foundation. Brick all around the bottom and we put siding on it. Not to say we won't get field mice now and then ; but so far none I will be happy if I never see another dang mouse or rat. Lol Good luck ! Hugs sheila

Posted - Oct 13 2010 : 06:08:31 AM We have 4 barn cats. They leave our chickens alone and keep the critters out of our house and feed. I don't know how it would do around a parrot. How big are they? |

Posted - Oct 08 2010 : 06:47:59 AM Those humane traps work pretty good. We recently got a whole family in a bucket. We had a tallish bucket with a little dog food in the bottom. They all went in but then it was too tall for them to get back up the slick plastic side. Relocated the whole bunch.

Posted - Oct 08 2010 : 06:40:57 AM I had a mouse in my sewing room a few weeks ago. He had made himself quite the home under a set of shelves and needed to go. My husband bought me a trap at Home Depot that was easy to use and humane. I just put a little spoonful of peanut butter in the trap, closed it up and placed it near the shelf. The next morning the mouse was inside, unhurt and with a full tummy. My husband took him down the road and let him go in a field. No poison and one happy, but possibly disoriented, mouse. I hope he was able to make some new friends.

Posted - Oct 08 2010 : 04:53:25 AM we use the traps in the house and poison in the garage. The stuff in the garage is for the rats though, so they will stay out of the chicken coop. We have them in the attic all winter long so we just put the poison up there. I'm not crazy about using it because sometimes there can be an odor for a while after they die. At least with the traps they can be tossed in the woods or something.
