Any way to get rid of fruit flies in the kitchen? I think with the hot weather & our covered compost pail in the sink, the fruit flies are buzzing around. We empty our compost pail 3x/day & keep it covered, but they are also on our bananas & things like that.

If it's not illegal, unsafe, or immoral, why not try anything once? Who knows? You may come back for a second helping!

I put mine in the corner, so it's not in the way and nobody disturbs it. I redo it 2-3days.
My sister just did this - left it on her dining room table. She had a horrible outbreak of fruit flies, after 2 or 3 times she was able to get them all.

I've put the cider vinegar in a spray bottle with a little water and dishsoap and sprayed them as I saw them. Works best in conjuction with the vinegar in a bowl.

any other ideas?? I have set out the cider vinegar with lots of success before, but this time . . . I don't want to use a spray. I just cant justify putting those chemicals into the air. I did fly swatter a bunch of time! I'm about to pay the nephew a penny a fly!

Try putting fresh mint sprigs in the fruit bowl. They don't like it. They have to be replaced when periodically. The vinegar works to draw them away.

I haven't tried but have heard about people setting small containers of apple cider vinegar on their counters. Like I said, I've never tried it, but I think it's getting time for me to try it to. They are horrible!
