Ugh! I get this rim of mold around the water line in my toilets. It seems to be inside the tank also. Does anyone have any ideas to get rid of this. I've tried a little bleach, but hate to use it all the time since we have a septic system.

Pumice stones are also carried at hardware stores & plumbing supply places. BTW, we break our pumice bar in half & use the other half for rubbing down the hard, dry heels on our feet!

Thanks Marly, I will give it a try. I have new toilets and it is really aggravating to see the hard water stains below the water level.

I use a pumice stone on hard water stains. It works for me, after scrubbing a while. Usually I'll make a paste with Bar Keepers Friend and sponge it on the stains and let set for about a half an hour. Come back, and rinse. Works for me. Good luck.

You should be able to find it anywhere. I know our Wal-mart sells it as does our local grocery store!

Can you get one of those pumice stones at any store, or would I have to go to a specialty store for that. I am having the same issue with one of my toilets, and have used many a product, only to have the mold or mildew re-appear. Thanking you for all of your advise |

I soak and then scrub and flush, then I use the pumice stone. You will find the stone gets smaller with use and it is ok because tiny pieces of it come off as you scrub. Then I just give a final flush and it's done. Doesn't take long either.

Thank you for your help! I'll try the vinegar & pumice stone. Do you scrub with vinegar first or just soak with vinegar?

I have that problem too with the mildew. I have taken to cleaning them more often. I use vinegar as it will not harm the septic and it does kill the spores. After that I use the pumice stone like Sherry mentioned. It does a wonderful job on the hard water stains and doesn't scratch at all. I'm not sure why we get the hard water stains as we have a water conditioner on our system but that is how I handle it and it seems to work well.

yes chlorine kills all the good bacteria in the septic that breaks down the stuff in there. may i say you need a non toxic pumice stone. it is hard like a rock. it scrapes the mold and hard water film off under your rim. then the holes that bring water into toilet function better. it gets rid of toilet rings also. we have HARD alkaline water here. i help folks with their homes using non toxic stuff. we actually saw the stones into thinner pieces then the stone fits under the rim better.just how we do it. no chemicals just a little elbow grease. it will not scratch porcelain. happy days sherrye

Maybe its mildew?? I don't know but it's nasty looking & hangs out on the edge of the water.

I put toilet tank stuff in some are septic safe.
But mold really have you had your water tested?
