Any ideas? I tried to look up 'stove polish' online, and I can't find anything to shine the outside of an old gas stove. I don't want to damage the finish, but I'd like to clean/pretty it up. It's been stored for a few years and it's time for it to be installed in our old farmhouse. I'll try any gentle, non abrasive product. Either commercial or make it myself.

Try a paste of baking soda and borax, rinse and then shine it up with vinegar.

Maybe Bar-Keepers-Freind. I've just recently re-discovered it in liquid form and like it real well for stains on dishes, glasses and stainless sinks.

Bon Ami is really good about cleaning without scratching. Another thing you might consider is looking up refinishing of porcelain tubs since I would assume it would be the same process for a porcelain stove.
