I, Alee Reid, hereby pledge to declutter my house. Objects who do not have a current use such as extra tupperware lids, holey socks, and clothes that are too small/big will be disposed of, recycled or donated as appropriate.

My goal is to reduce belongings/clutter by 50% while still maintaining a comfortable, workable lifestyle.

Who would like to join me? :D

I think that is true Bonnie! One thing that helped me realize how often I have to be on top of this stuff is thinking about how often my arms are full when I am coming home! Where does all this stuff come from? And then birthdays and Christmases can be (fun) but (horrible) at the same time because suddenly you have another influx of STUFF!

Oh farmgirls, woe is me. If you remember, I de-cluttered the whole house last fall. Our son moved home (it's 3 months now) and HE is after us to do it again! After I moaned and groaned, I realized that I really do have a lot more sorting to do. He is helping and things are getting better. He will be 44 tomorrow and has had great impact on my "stuff". Maybe this de-cluttering must be done on a regular basis from some of us. Good luck to y'all.

Dumpster is gone! Yes we filled it! Feels so good! Still have a few things to give away/donate. Still have a couple boxes to sort through, but other than that- our basement is cleared out, the attic is cleared out, the yard is cleared. The house was turned upside down, but I will get things in order this weekend. It is amazing how good this feels! The next step will be re wallpapering and floor replacement- but that will come in time. Still need to finish siding the house first. Always something! :-)

I think I, at least, get to the point where all of my possessions start to own me. Getting rid of stuff gives me a feeling of freedom. I still have to go through my clothing and get rid of about half of it, since it doesn't fit. And then to Andrew's closet, and the linen closet with sheets that don't fit a queen sized bed and I haven't EVEN started on the books...OOF! lots to be done! But I'm lovin' it!

That is awesome! What a positive movement we are making in our lives!

This morning I pulled out my fridge and got all the built up dirt away from the air intake. It's not decluttering but my house feels cleaner already and I am more motivated to keep up the cleaning/decluttering project!

The DH and I had a heart to heart talk and he says HE doesn't feel like our house is our home either. Who knew? We have been "planning" a garage sale for years and never get around to it, but have all this junk we have been saving for it, so we actually discussed the dumpster for hire thing too and came to an agreement about that, and selling the valuable things on Craig's list.
I wish I had taken before and after photos. My giant project last weekend was to reclaim our rec room from all the boxes and junk and dust and moth ridden wool carpet. It took two days but the room is now our meditation place and it feels and looks beautiful! It has freed up so much of my energy that was being drained away everytime I had to walk through there. It has been just the motivation I need to tackle some of the other big de-clutter jobs around the house, and DH says he wants to clear out the garage so we might actually be able to park a vehicle in it!
Keep up the good work, Sisters!
Deborah

Guess I'm not so weird after all! Sounds like this is a dream of many of my farmgirl friends. My hubby and I have a 15 yard dumpster a little over 1/2 full. Cleaned out all of the basement. Have added some stuff from our cabin as well. Still need to do the attic and we have stuff hidden behind our shed that can go as well. We're busy today getting ready for a cookout tomorrow, so the cleaning is on hold. We have the dumpster for 2 weeks, so I will still be plugging away at it next week. I am elated to have the basement clean - not that I can really use the space, but now it's cleared. I live in a house that was built in the late 1800's or early 1900's we don't know for sure. The basement is laid up stone and is very damp. But it seemed like a catch-all for things that could take the damp air (and some that couldn't). There were some old metal stove pokers from the previous owner, that crumbled when I picked them up. I think I inhaled lots of spider webs in the process too!(didn't see any snakes- didn't look real hard either - haha). We "inherited" lots of junk when we purchased our cabin 3 yrs ago, most of that we were able to dispose of in trash bags immediately, but there were miscellanous big things- rusty pipes, bent up/broken building material that we just put in the dumpster. The previous owners left all their contents in the cabin. We have vintage 70's furniture that still suits our purpose for now until we can gradually replace. So I guess we're really cleaning out 2 homes. The cabin is all cleared out now - except what we would like to replace. So it's back to concentrating on the house!
I will keep you posted!

I just found this de-clutter pledge site and what a lot of great ideas! I already have a trash bag full of clothes to donate and I cut up DH old t shirts and have lots of cleaning rags. Now I just have to clean.

Oh Brenda, how I long for a dumpster LOL! Have fun with it! Alee, that is a great technique for sorting out clothes to be donated - one load of laundry at a time. Sometimes I have my hands on an item, of clothes or whatever, and I think, I just do not want to have to handle this thing even one more time, I want this to be the last time this item requires any processing, and I go find a donation bag or the trash to put it in, and that feels good!

Friends, you are inspiring! Any threads going on here to support losing a few pounds? I need partners for that, too.

Call me weird, but we're having a dumpster delivered today! I am so excited! getting our basement cleaned out (is that strange?). We've accumulated so much in 25 yrs. some things are what we inherited from the previous owner and just never got rid of.I've got my sleeves rolled up and ready to go!

Good luck Brenda! I know you can do it!

I cleaned Nora's room today and some of the toys got hidden in the "trash" bag. Stuff that is of no real value- like the happy meal toys and such, or cards that had gotten stepped on an bent. Her room looks good and her books are all on the shelf now. :D

Each time I am doing laundry I am seriously re-appraising what is left in my drawers and what I am putting back in. Is it stained? Torn? Worn out? Too Small? Too big? If anything answers yes it either gets disposed of, or donated to the thrift shop. My laundry pile is noticeably smaller. Seriously! It is so nice not to sort though piles of clothes in the dresser or in baskets to find one of five shirts (or whatever) that I can wear to work. And since we are on a budget- I go shopping for "new" shirts at the thrift store as well, but when I do that I am very picky. It has to be nice looking and fit well _now_. No sense in buying more things I am not going to wear.

I like the SLOB technique Alee, I will try that. I have this week off for "vacation". My plans are clean out my basement, attic, and the rest of the house.I usually fizzle out the first day. I'm going to try to keep up the momentum. A lot of stuff can be tossed/recycled, or given away.I just keep thinking it would be nice to be organized and have some extra space to boot!I guess I should be thankful that I only need to go thru my own stuff. Kris, you've got your hands full with you Grandmother's things to sort through. good luck!
