Hello Farmgirls - Does anyone have a good homemade dishwashing recipe? I make my own laundry soap but was just wondering about making my own dish soap as well...I don't have a dish washer, well unless you count ME!

Thanks for the help! Sadiemae

I think Delicia's recipe is for dishwasher(machine) detergent, & Sadiemae's is for hand dish washing. Glycerin is very slippery & soap like. You can get it at some pharmacies, or a health food store, but I got mine from Mountain Rose Herbs. Their shipping is a little steep, so if you decide to get it there, you may want to check out their other products, as they have a whole selection. I have gotten beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter etc from them.
Citric acid will not likely make a good hand dishwashing product, but hey, give it a try!

Hrm. i have citric acid (used to make my own bath fizzies) I wonder if i could use that instead? (And how much?)

Megan ~C I'm not sure where to get the vegetable glycerin ...I was going to look online and check our local health food store ?

Koolaid? I've not heard of that before? Let me know how it works!

Nubidane ~ Thanks I love my name too ;)

I think there was a recipe posted earlier and I think it was equal parts borax and baking soda. Then the kicker is lemon/lime koolaid because you need the citric. I tried without the koolaid the first time I made it and it left a film and my dishes did not feel clean. I plan to try again this weekend and use the koolaid...

Is the vegetable glycerin ChillOver powder? Or, where do you get that?

anywhooo...

HOMEMADE LIQUID DISH SOAP
2c. warm water
2c. shredded bar soap
2Tbsp. vegetable glycerin
1/2c. lemon juice
1-5 drops essential oil (Lemongrass)
5 drops Tea Tree oil
1 large pot

Mix warm water and shredded soap in a large pot till the shreds have dissolved, stirring over low heat continuously. Stir in glycerin and remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Add lemon juice, essential oil and tea tree oil. Pour mixture into selected bottles and shake well. Mixture will be thinner than store bought soap...

Megan perhaps this will work for you!

Have a wonderful night, Sadiemae
