I have an interesting question for you. How many of you have heard of Don Maximo Bar soap? My mom gave me some that she bought years ago when she and my dad traveled to Mexico. She said they used it just like FelsNaptha to wash clothes with, especially grimy shirt collars. All the writing on the wrapper is written in spanish and there's a picture of a shirt collar on it. I looked it up on-line and they call it "Vintage" soap now. They must not make it anymore. She got it in the 70's. Any feedback?

It has a really nice smell too.  Not a smell you would expect from something called Don Maximo.lol

I have never heard of Don Maximo, but it sounds good. When we lived in Mexico we used ZOTE. I have been grating it up and using to make my laundry detergent and it works REALLY well. Smells good too! I bet your Don Maximo would work great.
A person is a success if they get up in the morning and get to bed at night and in between does what they want to do. Bob Dylan |

Thanks Melody. I'm amazed at how many people (didn't) respond to my topic. We must be the only ones who have this stuff. I wonder if I could grind it up and use it in my home-made laundry soap? What do you think?

Don Maximo is FANTASTIC! You will love it, especially if you have small children. My mom brought me a bar from Texas years ago when she and my dad used to spend winters there. You can get out stains like magic. What I do is place the garment on the kitchen counter where I can see. Then I get a small bowl of warm water and an old toothbrush. Dampen the stain and the bar. Rub the bar on the stain and then brush it. Let it sit for about 5 or 10 minutes and launder as usual. My Don Maximo bar is about 1 inch X 1 inch! I wish I had a new one!!!
