I think of how much I spend on haircare products and wonder if any of you has created a recipe for homemade shampoo and conditioner that is wonderful, and that you might share? You all are so innovative!

Warmly,
Lisa

Baking soda has the perfect pH for your scalp, so this is an excellent idea. I'm going to try the baking soda/water/vinegar idea. Thanks for the tip.

I just tried the baking soda and vinegar rinse. It was hard to brush but feels clean I'll see what it looks like in the morning. If I look like a clown... But it does not smell like vinegar at all. It just smells really clean. But don't get the vinegar in your eyes! It burns.

Thanks for sharing all this good info. I like using homemade things.

We don't buy our soap flakes, but instead use our food processor and 'grate' ivory soap that way. It works very well, and the processor is also easy to clean after.

Lisa

I've looked at Walgreens for these "Soap flakes" and can't find them. What stores should I be looking in?

Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world.

I haven't tried making my own, but got tired of paying for a bunch of chemicals for my head. Now I use castile soap for shampoo (& bodywash!) and rinse with apple cider vinegar. So far, I'm loving it! My hubby commented just today on how shiny my hair was! Good enough for me!

My sweet husband just found this recipe somewhere on line....I love the idea of the essential oils in the shampoo. Since we already grind our soap for homemade laundry soap, this should be very simple. I'll try it and let you all know how I like it.

1 empty bottle
3 cups of soap flakes (which you can get almost anywhere)
Water
Essential Oil of Lavender
Essential Oil of Rosemary

Directions:
Mix the soap flakes with the water and then add 4 drops of each oil.

Warmly,
Lisa

A while ago there was a thread on not using shampoo and using baking soda and water followed with a rinse of apple cider vinegar instead. You use a 1:1 ratio of baking soda to water (1T bs to 1 cup water, etc.) and use that to wash your hair as usual. You won't get suds beacuase there isn't any detergent. Just scrub well with your fingertips and rinse well. Then add 1/8 cup (1 1/2 T)apple cider vinegar to three cups warm water and rinse your hair. I've done this for two years now and my hair is very healthy and shiny. I sometimes will follow the vinegar rinse with 1 teaspoon of honey mixed in 4 cups warm water. I don't rinse this out. And no, you won't get attacked by bees. ;)
