It started back when I lived in Oklahoma and couldn't ever find BonAmi products or Zote! or washing soda or King Arthur Flour or castille soap, or fels naptha or natures gate organics... Then I moved to Texas and still can't get washing soda..but fortunately my local grocer went ahead and found a way to carry Zote! and Bon Ami....but they insist that they CAN NOT order Arm and Hammer washing soda....or fels naptha or castille soap or king Arthur flour...I just spent almost 2 full hours (SERIOUSLY) on the phone to every grocer and discount and department store in our tri county area, and they all told me the same thing....they CAN NOT order it because it's not availabe to them to order in this region...BOOOOOO!!!
So disappointing....I bet some of ya'll are saying...."just order it online"....but I can't justify shipping costs and interest on a credit card for a laundry detergent additive...lol....call me crazy, but it's the truth...
So was just wondering if any of you ever have the same problem with not being able to get ingredients or products that you need or want. It can be so very frustrating.......and to think...all I want to do is help out mother nature and my family at the same time...lol

Hey, just a quick note for all you gals who use baking soda by the truck load, if you prefer to buy in bulk and have a place to stoe a big bag, you can get a 50 pound bag of sodium bicarb (used for ruminants) at the feed store for like ten dollars and sodium bicarb is baking soda.... |

I find the best place to find Zote is local Mexican grocery stores- I love that I can get the white bars now instead of the pink ones, plus they are usually cheaper. If that's not an option, Dollar General stores carry it, though they only have the pink Zote. For either type of store, it does mean a trip to a nearby city for me.
Fels naptha my local grocery store does carry, and that's saying a lot considering I live in small farming town of 3500. Its not in the laundry isle, but its not with the regular bar soap either. I think its in the soap isle, but I had to really look for it...and then I couldn't use it because of the fragrances they use in it.
I have to stock up laundry detergent supplies sometime this week, so I'll try to keep track of what I find where...it seems like I get one ingredient at Super WalMart, but its been awhile so my memory could be a little fuzzy. On the Zote, I've started buying it ahead, so it can dry out, like our Mother's use to do with real soap. That was one problem I had when switched to buying Zote at Mexican grocery stores- sometimes it was almost too fresh to grate easily.
I did check with one of the regional grocery chains here that also happens to sell some grocery stuff online by the case, and they have a pretty good price on Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda. Its $34.09 for a 12 pack of 55oz boxes (41+ pounds total). I don't know what the going rate is for King Author flour at the grocery store, as I grind my own, but that seems pretty reasonable. |

I have "NO" credit cards and I order from the internet all the time, I use my debit bank card, no interest on them either, its the same as writing a check, it does have to have the "visa" or "mastercard" symble on it thou. Also if you go directly to the company on-line to order, no middleman, if they do charge shipping, what you saved by getting rid of the middleman, makes up for s & h.

I'm just glad to hear that I'm not the only one having trouble...Alee----I found ph Increase at the harware store... $8.99 for 4lbs!!!!
week before last I spent Hours calling every store in the tri county area...like I said above...went and found the ph Increse...OUCH!! then....run to Brookshires yesterday for milk and a couple more bars of Zote! Annnnndddddd...........guess what was sitting there on the shelf??????? YEP! Arm and Hammer Washing soda....in the store that the very manager of told me he COULD NOT order it!!!!!! And...$3.19 for 4lb box!!! SSSOOOO much cheaper than ph Increase!!! You know how much gas money went into the trip to the harware stoer that sold the ph Increase?...lol...not that ya'll care....but...103 miles round trip!!!!
Thank Goodness I can now get it locally!!! I think I'll go back and buy 10 boxes, that way atleast I know I'll be set for a while...LOL!

Kelley, Do you have any health food stores around? Maybe they would start carrying some of these things for you. I find alot of my things at the local Amish or Mennonite communities around here. King Arthur does have a catalog and gift cards. Maybe you could start asking for a gift card for special occasions. I usually ask for one as a b-day present! Or if making alot of small purchases from the internet bothers you maybe you could make a list of everything you needed and by in bulk to last you for so many months. Then you could pay the credit card bill in full and it would be helping your credit at the same time as helping the earth. Hope this helps! Tammy

Anna, Do you have a Ingle's near you? I have found that the Ingle's in Statesville has Borax and Arm and Hammer Washing Soda.

i find baking soda at walmart in the laundry section $2.16 for 4 lbs.
i find borax at brookshires in the laundry section $3.99 for 4 lbs.
also zote soap bar (like fels naptha i believe) for 79 cents a huge bar at brookshires in laundry area
and white vinegar and apple cider vinegar in food section at walmart for $2 large jug or so
still on the search for washing soda in my area, will try the suggestions above
finding that baking soda and vinegar are now staples and the biggest bang for the buck - can't believe how much money i am saving on laundry/cleaning products now just because of those two items

For the washing soda- go to the pool supply section of your closest Superstore and look for "PH Increase" It's the same stuff. Also I hear you can get a good deal from ordering straight from Arm and Hammer.

Have you tried a hardware store? The ones here in IL carry loads of cleaning products, including natural ones. Good luck on finding what you need.

i'm in a similar boat. and i also live in Texas! lovely eastern texas.
i am just starting on my journey to find all these wonderful ingredients and am not having luck either. but i am going to check out some natural health stores in the big town down the road and see if they have any sources... figuring that a local owned health/food store is a better source than a major chain grocery store that is limited to a list they are given to order from.
