I just got a bookcase from a friend who's moving, and it's the particle board kind...that absorbed all the CAT odors in her house. I have cats, but my house doesn't smell THAT bad...until now that the smell is wafting out!! I tried wiping it down with an enzyme cleaner, but of course, the smell is IN the particle board.
I'm toying with the idea of just painting it....it would look nicer...and maybe...MAYBE it would seal the smell in...?? Anybody have thoughts?? Or other ideas to rid it of the stink??

Bought Kilz!! Five gallons of the stuff, to be exact...I have to prime EVERYTHING in my new apartment this evening, and I'll go ahead and run a coat over the bookcase with what's left! Thanks for the input and suggestions, ladies!

That might work- partical board is notorious for being a "spounge" for odors. I hope cleaning and painting it works!

THe paint called kilz is great. I know that if you want to try a natural way about it, that you can wipe it down with apple cider vinegar first and that should get rid of the cat smell. Then you can paint once that's dry. The lady at the house that we bought smoked there for years and so the smell is really bad on the walls. When I wiped the kids bedroom down it was just black streaks coming down, but the smell was gone (in that room) even before I painted. :)

What about the paint product called Kilz? It is a primer that covers really well, even pet odors. They sell it at most home improvement places.

Cat odor is notoriously hard to get rid of. You could try to paint over it...but... I am afraid it won't work and it might be that you'll end up having to get rid of it!!
