HI girls,

I did a search and tried one variation for dishwasher detergent but it left a little bit of a film and grit (from the soap) on the dishes and glasses. I did pour white vinegar in the rinse dispenser. I was wondering if anyone has truly found a recipe that works leaving no film or grit? I only used about a tablespoon.

I would appreciate any input as I would love to save money and make my own :)

I would rather pay more and have no film than try to save money and do more work :)

I gave up on homemade dishwasher detergents too. Even some commercial ones leave a film on my dishes. I use Eco Clean from Whole Foods and it works just fine. Not saving any $ with it, but the dishes don't have a film on them.

I've been using Bioclean DW detergent, but mix it half and half with water softener from the cleaning isle of the grocery store. I put in one Tablespoon of the mix in each bin and nothing else. My dishes have been coming out clean and clear. I figure it costs about $.10 per load and it's an earth friendly combination.

I just happened upon this page on Tipnut.com. Haven't tried any but thought I'd pass it on.

I tried one too, but it didn't work too well. I had to really prerinse my dishes. They still weren't coming clean and would come out with terrible soap film on them :( So I am back to using the Ecover tabs. They work great but are kind of pricey.

Sharon I thought at one point I had found one but after a couple months I started really noticing that same film and grit. My solution was to just stop using the dishwasher. Now we wash all of our dishes by hand in the sink. Then we rinse them in a sink of vinegar water. They are always crystal clear now!! Nothing beats great-grandma's way.

Me Three!?!?!?!

If it's not illegal, unsafe, or immoral, why not try anything once? Who knows? You may come back for a second helping!
